The Mount Vernon Ladies' Association, who own and operate General Washington's estate, state that there is no evidence that he smoked. There are no references in the myriad personal reflections of his friends and family, or in his diaries, and there are no heirloom pieces that would suggest that he did. But he did enjoy a good Madeira with a meal, and distilled his own rye and beer...

Of course, Clinton, he smoked and chewed his lewinsky cigars.

I have heard Pierre Salinger tell this very story.

All those ads clamed their cigaretts to be "mild". What is a mild cigarette, anyway? I smoked for a number of years and remember some of the "milder" ones were quite strong.

You'll feel better about smoking with the taste of Kent,
Kent with the micronite filter,
Refines away harsh flavor,
Refines away hot taste.
It makes the taste of a cigarette mild
Like a balmy day in the month of May.
Kent is the best with the flavor you like.
Kent is the best with the flavor you like.A blast from the past.

Well, Kools and Viceroys were not mild cigarettes.

Sorry, just couldn't find one with the smoke curling above his bulbous, blotchy face:

but no president or first lady since Ford's day has been a regular smoker." USA Weekend, Jun. 3, '01 Laura Bush was a heavy smoker when whe met George. An amusing story of her visiting at the Bush's vacation home, I read just a couple of months ago.
Seems that George's grandmother (paternal) was asking Laura why she did not join the others with boating, fishing or other such physical activities.
Laura quietly answered that she enjoyed smoking, reading and contemplating life. LOL

The old tobacco commercials always a fun and fresh side to them.
KENT did the "Happiness is----" ad in the last days of TV advertising.
Taryton smokers rather fight than switch.
With Winston "It was what was up front that counted."
Sounds like great thread for later.

A thread on which president wore boxers or briefs can't be too far behind.
