Most gun owners need to disassociate themselves from the extremists

[history]
As a gun owner, hunter and sportsman, I'm concerned about a common misperception: the belief that gun owners are a monolithic body of people who all march to the tune of the National Rifle Association.
As legislators debate the measure that would put more concealed, loaded handguns onto our streets, they should not assume that most gun owners would be happy with a looser permitting system. Some very misguided policies are propounded in our names, and many common-sense measures that would protect all of us are never enacted -- all out of fear that gun owners will exact their revenge at the polls if our interests are not defended.

Hunters are among the most responsible of gun owners. We store, care for and use our firearms properly. We treat them with respect because we know their power and understand their danger.Anyone who is a member of a gun club and worked an open to the public "deer sight-in" weekend can tell you about the rust in the barrels, the loose scope screws, and the very poor marksmanship of your average hunter.

Not to mention the bill that was floated a while back that would have banned shotguns larger than 26 gague or some such as ".50 caliber assault weapons".

The slippery slope is very very real.
This fool writer would gladly give up his ""fill in blank"" if it meant more securtiy for "society" or "community" or "the children" or "puppies" or "social democracy".

England, Australia, Canada, California; register weapons and it leads to illegality and confiscation.

"The rest of us do not support the notion that our community will be safer with thousands more gun-toting citizens carrying concealed, loaded handguns. Nor do we believe that military-style combat weapons should be marketed to the general public. "
Noooo, of course not. This guy is an idiot who apparently does not realize that after ridding society of so-called "assault weapons" his deer rifle will be the next target.

"They have not built bunkers under their homes, they don't own (nor do they appear to desire to own) automatic weapons, high explosive weapons, or any of the "banned" weaponry typically depicted in this mischaracterization."
Automatic weapons are not banned. They are legal.

We need more men like you, and fewer men like Bob.

What a load of crap
As a gun owner, hunter and sportsman,
One of the most fanatical gun haters in Atlanta is Cynthia Tucker of the Atlanta Urinal/Constipation and I heard her say that she was a gun owner and hunter in the past. Gun hating tyranny lovers always feel obiged to tell you that they either own guns or hunt or something like that. I suspect that they feel it enhances their credibility or something. This guy is an freedom hating jackboot licking statist as is obvious from what he says. He doesn't have a clue about the second amendment freedom etc.

its a elitist syndrome. Mr. Banker believes he would be allowed to keep a firarm for any reason because he can afford to arrange the paperwork. Its better for him because if guns are outlawed then he will not have to worry about armed robbers taking his stuff or thretening him. (I am certain he,if real, has not thought this out or has and is lying)
To: jdege
The unfortunate truth is that those gun owners who speak the loudest represent only one rather extreme element of the gun-owning population. It is unfortunate. I wish all gun owners would be extreme in the defense of their rights.
To: jdege
There is no threat to losing our right to own guns for sport. That's true, more than likely. Thankfully the 2A is not about hunting.
If you only want guns for sport, then you won't mind having them stored in the local gun range and asking permission to take them out for your supervised hunting trip. I wish the NRA were as rabid about gun rights as the ACLU is about free speech.

Hmmmm... No reply. Is that the sound of crickets chirping?
