But didnt diplomacy turn out to not be the right way? So it would appear that Blair, if he had consulted with Clinton, did NOT take his advice. In fact, Blair may have consulted Clinton in order to do the exact opposite of what that idiot would advise.

Don't forget the opposition Blair had/has to the war on terrorism reaching into Iraq. He did align with Bush, much to the chagrin of his fellow Brits.
