Messy camp costs troops calls to home

CAMP UDAIRI, Kuwait - On the eve of Easter, Fort Hood's sons and daughters couldn't call home from this miserable desert outpost because the place has been declared too messy.

The perhaps aptly named "Mayor" Bosse closed the phone tent "until further notice" and created an uproar among thousands of 4th Infantry Division troops waiting here for convoys into Iraq.

Dubbed the mayor because he is in charge of administering the camp, Mayor Bosse is actually Lt. Col. Peter Bosse, a reserve officer from Minneapolis, Minn.

It's not as though this is a scenic site. There is no vegetation - only sand and rocks and tents and tanks and Humvees and soldiers. There are also very few trash cans. Litter consists mostly of empty plastic water bottles.

The trash piles are possible breeding grounds for rodents and fire hazards, Bosse said.

The phone tent opened only a couple of days ago. Lines for a call home are hours long but soldiers willingly wait to hear the voices of loved ones.

Bosse said when the camp is clean, the phone tent will "absolutely" re-open immediately.

"I suspect that will happen soon," said Bosse.

I understand that you were asked to leave the military. That you spread your history on the internet in order to validate your lost honor. That you allowed a dim wit to define you. That you feel justified in bitching about an officer and a situation who you know nothing about in order to bring up why you no longer can serve. I then went over his head to the Major and asked to leave.
I couldn't stand wearing the same uniform as that scum sucking slime maggot anymore.

I got an honorable discharge, the Captain got a black mark in his book, and my old unit got it's flag rolled up and is now a supply closet.

You don't understand that you've been shown an example -EXAMPLE- of what a BAD OFFICER IS and DOES.
The LTC seems to be a BAD OFFICER because HE is the one who is supposed to MAKE SURE that what doesn't pile up now?
He's supposed to make sure there are enough of WHAT?
Instead, he goes after the troops.
That's the mark of a bad officer.

Like I said, you allowed a dim wit to define you. Sure you know what the Captain was given in his book. Not even the army tells subordinates what goes in the evaluation of a superior. Sure they closed a reserve unit over this. You are clueless. You have no idea what the LTC is or isn't, but think the chip on your geeky little shoulder gives you the right to slander without challenge. I'd like to get a grip around your frigging neck.

I am in the desert here....and I experienced this "mess" of the desert.

The winds blow over our tents and port-a potties (gross).....and they blow the trash everywhere.

No matter how tidy you try to be...the wind blows the trash out of receptacles and back across the desert.


Most of the trips have only received mail an average of 3 or 4 times in 8 weeks times and mail is usally a month late.


There are usually 12 phones for 4-6 thousand folks and most wait in line for 2 hours (...oh yeah...today it was 115 degrees) to talk to their families.I waited in line 6 hours one time to have 1/2 on the internet.....to read pusbags like you tell the army folks they are whining.
