You'll *also* note that this was a histogram based on "date of onset" - this would *naturally* cull a certain number of samples from this chart (those *not* possessing an 'onset date') - and it would most likely be about as random a factor as one could find, too, to 'cull' with.

several dozen patients were taken to the hotel Tuesday morning, the day WHO officials visited two military hospitals. I don't care how many they hide at military hospitals - so long as there is a representative sample at civilian hospitals such that a trend can be established as to whether this contagion is spreading ...

SARS toll soars. Is this a *true* or inflated headline?
With a descriptive term like 'soars' I expect a REALLY healthy increase in the number cases - IS THERE?

"Um...............given that this is the first modern science has seen of this disease, it's pretty safe to say that every individual death brings the the total to a "new high" Sloppy."

Um...............given that this is the first modern science has seen of this disease, it's pretty safe to say that every individual death brings the the total to a "new high" Please read the article, first sentence. They had twelve deaths on Friday, the most deaths in any single day. They are not talking about the total, they are talking about the daily death rate

They had twelve deaths on Friday, the most deaths in any single dayHow does this relate to the disease spreading (new suspected cases and new probable cases)?
Short answer: it doesn't. That's the stat I've got my eye on ...
They are not talking about the total, they are talking about the daily death rate
The headline should have conveyed that then. So much of this news/these stories are redundant *new* information needs to be specifically identified a little more clearly.
