Arm the troops when they're off base and use the same rules of engagement in San Antonio as in Baghdad. Problem solved.

http://afr.com/iraq/2003/03/27/FFXIPKBKRDD.html "Most US academics now agree that stories of Vietnam vets being spat on and derided on their return home in the early to mid 1970s are - as best as anyone can determine - urban myth, according to Larry Lichty, a journalism professor at Chicago's Northwestern University."

This 'general'must be a Clinton-era pick. I can't believe that any general would tell his troops not to wear their uniforms.
My advice to the troopers would be to wear it with pride, and make sure you stay close to your comrades in case they need backup.

I'm sure that there were some instances of this, but most Americans supported the troops in Vietnam, even though over time most came to regard the war effort as pointless.

He's a Major General in the Medical Corps but I believe he achieved his current rank while Bush was president.

"The matter was taken care of by combined military action"
caught my eye as well, wish we had pictures.
This reminds me, years back a friend of my son, was interested in dating a daughter of a Marine, however, he was concerned in asking her out as he had been told that a Marine had been trained 25 different ways to kill a man with his bare hands.
"In addition, said Mr. Schauer, the Mayor has scheduled a march on behalf of the troops, May 1."
Now isn't May 1, the day that the Communists march for their May Day parade?

"The matter was then taken care of by combined military action," said Mr. Reidinger, who would not elaborate.Heh heh heh.......
I hope that the punks were introduced to a prickly pear cactus, face first.

Arm the troops when they're off base and use the same rules of engagementNah, there was always tension between civilians and military in a post town or port. If it got too out of hand, the Navy used to declare dungaree liberty.
Combined ops seems the way to go IMHO.

Mr. Reidinger said some Marines, who were not in uniform but were in the vicinity at the time of the confrontation, went to the aid of the sailors. While Marines and Sailors will sometimes brawl with each other, it is unwise to pick on one sea service whilst the other is in the vicinity. Pick on the one and both close ranks. Then it's all over but the butt kicking and name taking.

Simple but highly effective...put the town OFF LIMITS to military personnel..makes the economy suffer and the idiots get the message REAL QUICK to the local government. Only take about a week to bring them to their senses. The only way to impact a Liberal is to hit his wallet hard.

Gee, then he'd better interview Col Antonio Lopez, USAF (ret)...then a Major in the USAF. Col Lopez was accosted by a long haired hippie type yelling baby killer as he was trying to board a bus to go home for his mom's funeral.
His commander called him back off a 'run' in his jet, told him his mom had died, and hustled him home ASAP for the funeral. He was accosted by this hippie, druggie on the final leg home.
Now you'd have to see the Col. about 5'7" wiry, hippie was over 6 ft.

This is nothing new. I was in the army stationed at Ft Lawton in Seattle WA after WW2 and we were instructed by our commanding officer not to visit Seattle in uniform. This was especially true on May Day. Seattle area is loaded with communists.

Nah, there was always tension between civilians and military in a post town or port. True. Witness the "Sailors and Dogs Keep Off The Grass" signs that pop up like weeds in Norfolk VA.

Before my husband left for Iraq, I flew down to see him. We went to San Antonio for a day visit, both wearing army warm up suits, we received TONS of glares and nose turnings! I laughed it off, kept the jacket on and smiled!
