After years of intensive study, numerous missions, and delivery of sundry vehicles and communications equipment to the surface of Mars, NASA has determined that some of the rocks on Mars are reddish-brown, and some are brownish-red. Some of the rocks are more rounded than others. And they differ considerably in size.

All of this has been determined for the low, low taxpayer-funded price of $83,271,504,687,923,066,384,197.

The first geologists on Mars are not going to be humans of flesh and bone, but robot automatons of metal and wheels.

That's more like it. Manned space programs? Been there; done that. Today, that should be the domain of third-world wannabes who don't have what it takes to do serious unmanned exploration.

Unavoidably duplicating some of Sabertooth's pings.

[This ping list is for the evolution -- not creationism -- side of evolution threads, and sometimes for other science topics. To be added (or dropped), let me know via freepmail.]

Manned space programs: What a total waste of money!

Yeah, but those "robot automatons of metal and wheels" are just hexapod wannabes ("wannabees?")

Before anyone cries, "devolution," though, get ready for the next step...

Note to NASA: 1 inch = 2.54 centimetres exactly. Other things scale from there. 1 foot = 30.48 cemtimetres. 1 yard = 0.9144 metres. 1 mile = 1.609344 kilometres exactly. This should help next trip.

I fear that NASA isn't entirely up to date.

If all goes well, the six-wheeled rovers will be rolling around the Red Planet sometime in January 2003.

All will not go well if they don't get their date/time conversions programmed correctly.

What a typical bipedist; it's such an evolutionary deadend.

Here's NASA's future...

The MER rovers are not quick robots. While scientists expect them to traverse 330 feet (100 kilometers)

330 ft = about 100 METERS Not kilometers.

Well, maybe we can drive these robots over to where Neil Armstrong planted the American flag. ;>)

Is it just me or is there something wrong with this statement?

I can solve those problems in two words: "portable wormholes."

You still aren't gonna get them to Mars by January, 2003.

Better yet, use a robot to plant the Flag on Mars, concurrent with a fake manned mission a la "Capricorn One." That way, everyone's happy -- even if they don't know it -- and Mars belongs to US.

;-)

Better yet, have OJ do it. While he's on Mars he can look for the killers of Ron and Nicole.
