I was just watching MSNBC.

They've had some beautiful lead-in pieces at commercial breaks, such as the soldier singing ditties with Iraqi children. The "Let Freedom Ring" compilations.

But I almost fell out of my chair when I heard the new one. Compiled photos of troops in action, with the voice-over being President Reagan's moving words at Pont du Hoc on the 50th anniversary of D-Day.

Reagan? On MSNBC? It's a new world, folks!

The only point Morris failed to make was the instant communications on the internet.

On this forum we instantly heard about news reports from all over the world. It was exhilarating!

One of the reasons x42 was able to "slide" by when scandals about him broke was that his machine started the spin immediately. Thus, by the time the 5:00 news was on, the spin was in.

With the internet, there is not time for spin. Information is spread too quickly for the spin to happen. The truth is out (and sometimes rumors).

Newspapers used to be "hot" news. After radio and TV, newspapers became summaries and recaps while radio/TV were the "hot" news. Now, the internet has the "hot" news and radio/TV do the recap.

I absolutely LOVE the soldier and the children singing. I keep recording it on my VCR each time it comes on. I believe it is on about 1:15pm est and 3:15pm est. as well as other times. So cute. Seeing Reagan on there talking was GREAT! What class.

This weekend in St. Petersburg, French, German, and Russian leaders meet to coordinate the next stage in the their diplomatic battle against the US over Iraq. France, Germany, and Russia want Iraq’s reconstruction to be handled by the UN rather than the US-British alliance. They seem determined to present a unified front to pressure the alliance into yielding post-war reconstruction. It is clear, however, that the ultimate decision on this is entirely in the hands of Washington. And Washington certainly appears disinclined toward such a course of action.
