Homer Simpson Was Right About Shi'ites!

"But Marge, it works on any Ayatollah!" --Homer Simpson defending his purchase of a ten-year-old "Ayatollah Assaholah!" t-shirt... But the bit of news that has bothered me most was the report that southern Iraq's "Grand Ayatollah," Ali al-Sistani, issued a fatwa ordering his Shi'ite followers not to resist incoming American, British and Australian troops. Sure, I completely understand the concept of "the enemy of my enemy is my friend," but since when has America ever benefited in the long run from any fatwa issued by any ayatollah (much less a "grand ayatollah," a title that makes al-Sistani sound like he should be presiding not over a mosque but rather a rye-soaked fraternal bowling-and-drinking society)? Obviously, Iraqi Shi'ites should have been glad for liberation; Saddam rode that population brutally hard and committed enough human rights abuses against them during his decades of reign to make even the most tough-nosed CNN news executive blanch, and for that there is no excuse.

James Morrow does completely show his @ss on this one.
Books could be (and have been) written about what he doesn't know.
It's a pity when the truly ignorant get a forum like his.

Ever the intellectual visionary, Homer hits it right on the nose. Shortly after this "fatwah" was issued, it was recinded.

HJS is just your regular Joe 12-pack, and like most of the sort, his ideas for dealing with terrorists and other threats is spot on:
Ned: Homer, I've got a fozzie of a bear of a problem. Y'know Maude and her mother were visiting Tyre and Sidon, the twin cities of the Holy land. They must've kneeled in the wrong place and prayed to the wrong God, because, well, they're being held prisoner by militants of some sort.
Homer: Militants, huh? Well, if I were you, I'd kick their asses.
