Maybe someone kept them as insurance in the event of capture.

For what it's worth. An Iraqi expert who appeared reasonably credible to me said Saddam would keep the POWs close to him so Tikrit makes sense. Also wondering about the RG battalion that left Tikrit. Was it because the higher ups were leaving and they wanted us to lighten our troops going to Tikrit??
Guess we'll have to wait and see.
