Good Morning.

This is the Daily Thread of Operation Iraqi Freedom - Situation Room - LIVE THREAD.

It is designed for general conversation about the events of the day. In depth discussion of events should be left to individual threads - but links to the threads or other articles is highly encouraged. This allows us to stay abreast of the situation in general, while also providing a means of obtaining specific information.

Please have mercy on us dial up limited FReepers! Limit the big graphics, post links instead. A brief description of what the graphic is would help!  If you post graphics, please "size" them so that our browsers continue to load the rest of the thread!

I don't see any "untidiness", as Rummy would call it, on the BagCam this morning.

Looks totally normal to me.

is that like 2=2=5

Don't degrade the term of hero....their are heros and they deserve to be held higher for their sacrifice

A former Iraqi POW is being interviewed on Fox on what the Iraqis did to him. It's not pretty.

I'm beginning to believe Pfc. Lynch was left behind because she wasn't ambulatory. These POWs--RESCUED FORMER POWs-all could walk. And they're already on their way to Kuwait.

This is not the time to argue over the term "hero".

Democracy indeed trumps everything else.

The major point here is that governments are threatened by many different things. Tyrants have to fear their own people in exact proportion to the fear they themselves exact.

As soon as the tyrant is seen to be vulnerable to the proper extent, he is set upon and very often, he is destroyed.

A democracy, otoh, depends upon the integrity of the PEOPLE. As long as the people are honest and true to themselves, to one another, a democratic republic will survive--even if there is from time to time corruption in the political class, because the people can purge the system. But when the people themselves are corrupt, and ungodly, and wicked, they cannot hold their freedoms, and the result is, more often than not--a tyranny.

Ironic.

I don't see any "untidiness", as Rummy would call it, on the BagCam this morning.

I was thinking the same thing. Amazing to see the Sunday morning church traffic, considering Bagdad was "invaded" just a few days ago. Of course, given time, NYT/WP/ABCNBCCBSCNN can put a negative spin on the Bagcam scene---something along the lines that traffic is snarled due to looting and violence taking place, yadda yadda yadda ...

When I woke up, I called it the White Car Convention in downtown Baghdad.

Now I see a sat-uplink TV truck. I swear, this looks just like downtown Pasadena...without the lowriders.

I was a little aggravated with the coverage yesterday..mostly about the looting. I sepnt the day with the kids, when I did watch tv, I watched some movies.
Iraqis are probably pretty much done letting go their frustraion/hostility with the regime. Plus word is probably out that Police will be back putting cities back in order.

And so the Iraqis "screamed and leapt" (to borrow a term from SF writer Larry Niven).

And this is different from your average American truck-driver, HOW exactly?

Sunday is a work day in Baghdad, isn't it? I don't think Sunday morning traffic in Baghdad is necessarily church traffic. I think Sunday is the beginning their work week.
