PASADENA, Calif (AP) - NASA unveiled the landing sites today where it hopes to land twin rovers on Mars next January to look for geological evidence that the Red Planet was once a warmer, wetter place hospitable to life.

Data gathered from NASA satellites orbiting the planet suggest both sites once abounded in water.

Oh - I thought this was going to be about the Lee sisters - Sheila Jackson (D-TX), and Barbara (D-CA).

BAH! Why are we still sending machines to the red planet? It's time to reclaim space and put Americans on Barsoom. It's time to make Mars our celestial beeyotch.

Hell, we can't even muster the political will to go back to the moon, let alone go all the way to Mars.

See that's just the proof the Left was seeking: today Iraq, tomorrow Mars. That's the kind of expansionist policies they warned us about.

Why can't we do what they tell us and be a regular third-world, socialist country?

The landing sites had to be at fairly low altitudes to provide enough atmosphere to fill the parachutes

Yes, the landing sites ought to be at low altitudes -- preferably ground level since landing higher has proven to be a problem for NASA. And low latitudes will provide a denser atmosphere as well...

I don't think it wise to provoke our little grey friends anymore - they were quite specific the last time they 'took out' our probe to the Red Planet - what part of "Attempt No Landings Here" does NASA not understand?
