Good Morning.

This is the Daily Thread of Operation Iraqi Freedom - Situation Room - LIVE THREAD.

It is designed for general conversation about the events of the day. In depth discussion of events should be left to individual threads - but links to the threads or other articles is highly encouraged. This allows us to stay abreast of the situation in general, while also providing a means of obtaining specific information.

Please have mercy on us dial up limited FReepers! Limit the big graphics, post links instead. A brief description of what the graphic is would help!  If you post graphics, please "size" them so that our browsers continue to load the rest of the thread!

To all who helped this get started and keep it running, thank you!

Special thanks to Null and Void for keeping these threads running on the weekends, Mo1 for the screamer, the AdminMods for their tolerance, mhking for the video links, Ragtime Cowgirl for her Exclusive Live Transcription Service™, Fledermaus for his 15 minutes of fame, and, of course, Belly Girl...

Shep says to Eric, how come you didn't get a hug?!!

That was good. I love that male banter.

I remember listening to the BBC during gulf war '91 and hearing that they entered a prison and found people with no clothing and only bread to eat. It was something which shocked me and I never forgot it. Just a warning. No telling what they will find when they break in.

Our prisoners in the US have incredible rights. Granted, some awful stuff has happened in the past to get us to this point. But, the endless appeals and cases getting thrown out of court for a typo. Not a good scene.

That is the kind of thing done in the middle ages! I hope we can bring Iraq at least up to the 19th century!

He sounds like Kevin Stevens all over again! The Caps had John Kordic for a very short period of time.... what a sad story! Regardless, there is far less of this type of problem than there is in other sports. This is a great sport.... I was out there skating at 6:00am this morning!!!

I agree re: Speicher. How awful for him if he had been held all this time, hoping everyday for 12 long years that someone might come rescue him.

I'm not sure any amount of rehab could ever bring someone back from that.

Too awful to think that he wouldn't even have his family waiting for him.

Don't worry, don't you understand that this just means that it was all unnecessary? I know that this was posted as a thread earlier, but I thought I would share for anyone who missed it..
See what Harkin had to say today

Alert. Another Saddam half-brother ( don't remember his name, not well known) was captured by the Kurds in Northwest Iraq trying to sneak into Syria. Reported by ABC radio news.

My husband brought home some Bailey's Irish Cream tonight and I am mellow.

MMMmmm...bailey's over ice is one of my favorites. Or in hot chocolate is really good, too.

Light pole, maybe, or a commmunications antenna? It's right next to what I think is a Humvee (or some sort of military vehicle).

It should become clearer as it gets lighter.
