Good Morning.

This is the Daily Thread of Operation Iraqi Freedom - Situation Room - LIVE THREAD.

It is designed for general conversation about the events of the day. In depth discussion of events should be left to individual threads - but links to the threads or other articles is highly encouraged. This allows us to stay abreast of the situation in general, while also providing a means of obtaining specific information.

Please have mercy on us dial up limited FReepers! Limit the big graphics, post links instead. A brief description of what the graphic is would help!  If you post graphics, please "size" them so that our browsers continue to load the rest of the thread!

To all who helped this get started and keep it running, thank you!

Special thanks to Null and Void for keeping these threads running on the weekends, Mo1 for the screamer, the AdminMods for their tolerance, mhking for the video links, Ragtime Cowgirl for her Exclusive Live Transcription Service™, Fledermaus for his 15 minutes of fame, and, of course, Belly Girl...

or they set off a dirty bomb and irradiate our troops while they are safe in the bunkers.

That's possible. Just like it was possible that they'd launch chemical weapons.

But how many casualties would a dirty bomb cause on the battlefield? And then our guys will slaughter the Ba'athists.

so I guess RFK thinks that Iraq under Saddam was a nicer place for its citizens then Kuwait?

I shudder to think what he thinks we're going to replace SH with, now that we've "unpropped" him...

Kennedy's got some real problems; the last time he was on, he defended his use of private jets for travel, saying that he was "saving oil" with his public appearances...

RFK, JR. is an asshole, we get our oil from canada and others....we get so little from them it wouldn't matter, and he knows it or he's a bigger asshole than I thought

Rumsfeld said the same vase stealing scene was playing over and over. Hmmmm, how about a montage of the same vase pictures, (perhaps one that is in dashels office?)

He said we'll have to find that out. Ollie made the point to say that it's from the Jodanian government or somebody in their government supplying arms. From his prior experience in these matters, I would say that this probably came from somebody high up in their government unless their mid-level guys have leeway to ship arms without the head honchos giving the OK for it.

I had to go consult the master wanker list and we don't seem to have a wanker name for the press as a whole. These are some that refer to specific press people/networks:

CNN Wanker Central. All wanking, all the time. Peter Jennings the wankmaster general Helen Thomas = Wankasauras Rex, Wanker Emeritus mediot press conference=wankfest, wankerama

Good usage of nouns and verbs. Will have to keep thinking of good descriptions for the cantankerous wanker press.

I think he's dead, but from the 2nd strike. The entire government collapsed after that 2nd strike.

I am glad you caught it. Yes, and a reporter who is proud to be an American and said it out loud (and it wasn't on Fox)!

Just as I read your post, Chip Reid, embedded reporter in Baghdad and on MSNBC, says yes there's some looting but they did not have the sense it was anarchy, chaos, or any long term problem. Actually, as he speaks I realize I heard this report from Chip earlier.

I think what remains of the Baathist regime is hanging around on the Syrian shore, soaking up rays and looking for deeper hiding places.

There are a few die hards at the edge of the Syrian border, and Tikrit remains a big concern.

There's more to be had, however.

Has anyone ever seen Robert Kennedy Jr. and John Ritter in the same room?

Even though my son is a Captain in the army he still likes to play Nintendo. In Zelda there is a scene where Link goes into a room and there are some blue and white oriental vases. I was watching my son play a couple of weeks ago and he showed me how Link could break the vases and that scene came to my mind when I heard about the looters with the vases.

This is probably the flag the Iraqis would rather see today. Saddam changed the flag to add Arabic writing in 1991 after the invasion of Kuwait. I think the writing refers to Kuwait being the 19th province or something like that.

Hannity nailed it .. if they REALLY wanted everyone to use alternate fueled cars .. they should put all their time, energy and money perfecting a good product that Americans could buy ...

IMO they would rather put their time, energy and money into attacking the right... which makes them look like the phonies that they are
