In a court case a few years back, this girl (she was 16 or 17) had been kidnapped, beaten, had her throat cut, sexually assaulted and left for dead at a park entrance in my county. She managed to crawl to a nearby house, naked and bleeding, IDed the rapist, included a detailed description of his car & his license plate--I'm still amazed that she was able to do that. When it came time for the trial, she said it was okay to use her face and her name because she "was a survivor, not a victim." She was courageous, but few are. And it should be the choice of the person who was raped, not the media.

It's also the reaction from those who stigmatize rape victims/survivors. I could go into depth, but I think I'll leave it at that.
