THE ground battle for the last stronghold of Saddam Husseins regime could start as early as Monday.
The first elements of the US 4th Infantry Division, including 44 of the latest Abrams M1A2 tanks and 18 Paladin howitzers, will shortly be in attack position outside Tikrit, 112 miles north of Baghdad.

What is really known about where the 4th Infantry is? Last I heard it was gathering at the Iraq border in Kuwait. I also saw that there are M1s being airlifted to the north -- are they from the 4th?
I'm expecting to be surprised.
To: Desecrated
I don't think they would use it.
It would be interpreted by our enemies as a form of genocide.
OTOH.....who gives a damned what they think?

I agree, but I read somewhere that there are bunkers/man made caves in hills outside of town so it would stir them up OK !

I think this thing is over ther more to make an impression on Assad and the mullahs than to accomplish anything concrete.

Maybe they are lost. Gee, I hope they don't lose their way so badly that they wind up in Damascus.

I think you are right !
BTW, did you know that this thing was designed to be carried by the B2 stealth bomber ? It can take two per run ! The C-130 is an additional delivery method that was used during the first test.

It would be interpreted by our enemies as a form of genocideThat is exactly the message we need to send to "some of our enemies".
We will not let you use civilins to protect yourselves from the consequences of your actions.

What is really known about where the 4th Infantry is? Yesterday, a reporter from Jane's Defence Weekly reported that a brigade of the 4th had already gone into Iraq. My guess is a Saturday morning surprise at Tikrit.
By the way, I believe that some elements of the Big Red One (from Germany), with armor, are already in northern Iraq. I saw a patch on one of the guys in a news report today.
