NICHOLAS DE GENOVA, Assistant Professor Ph.D., University of Chicago Telephone: (212) 854-0199
office: 416 Hamilton email: npd18@columbia.edu
The central concerns of my research and teaching include: labor and class formation, racialization, the production of urban space, nationalism, the politics of citizenship, and transnational social processes, especially migration. My ethnographic research explores the social productions of racialized and spatialized difference in the experiences of transnational Mexican migrant workers within the space of the U.S. nation-state. More specifically, I examine transnational urban conjunctural spaces that link the U.S. and Latin America as a standpoint of critique from which to interrogate U.S. nationalism, political economy, racialized citizenship, and immigration law. This work contributes to a reconceptualization of Latin American, Latino, and "American" (U.S.) Studies. Likewise, I am interested in the methodological problems of ethnographic research practice and the limits of anthropological disciplinary forms of knowledge and modes of representation.

Let's nail him on some "Hate Crime" statute! I suggested this when it first happened.

This would be hilarious if it wasn't real. I bet even he has no idea exactly what that jibberish means.

I see that all of his "recent publications" deal with rap or hip hop or Africa/Slavery....I think I get it now...He's got the dreaded "WHITE MAN'S GUILT"!!!!! I really would like to hear that he stepped out in front of an NYC bus or maybe got hit by a Taxi while jaywalking!!!
I try not to hate anyone...but the things he said......

I doubt you'll find a prosecutor in NYC who would bring that case. Even if the professor is charged he'll ask for a jury trial and not be convicted. (Don't get me wrong, I like your thinking -- but we're talking about NYC here.)
No east-coast politicians are going to tackle this case. But Senators and Representatives from the U. S. heartland might be able to take some of Columbia's federal money away. Nothing upsets liberals worse than trying to take away their government money -- it drives the crazy!

It may only require a prominent politician to call for this weasel to be prosecuted for "hate crimes" to put the fear of God in these ingrates. Fear is a powerful thing. I don't mind what these people think as long as they don't say it and by doing so allow themselves to be used by our enemies to demoralize our troops or sway political decisions.
