Operation Iraqi Freedom
This thread is dedicated to the brave men and women of the
Armed Forces of the United States of America.
"Wish You Were Here"
For all the free people that still protest.
You're welcome. We protect you and you are protected by the best.
Your voice is strong and loud,
but who will fight for you? No one standing in your crowd.
We are your fathers, brothers, and sons,
wearing the boots and carrying guns.
We are the ones that leave all we own,
to make sure your future is carved in stone.
We are the ones who fight and die,
We might not be able to save the world, Well, at least we try.
We walked the paths to where we are at
and we want no choice other than that.
so when you rally your group to complain,
take a look in the back of your brain.
In order for that flag you love to fly
wars must be fought and young men must die.
We came here to fight for the ones we hold dear.
If that's not respected, we would rather stay here.
So please stop yelling, put down your signs,
and pray for those behind enemy lines.
When the conflict is over and all is well,
be thankful that we chose to go through hell.
Corporal Joshua Miles and all the boys from 3rd Battalion 2nd Marines,
Kuwait 3/9/2003

Good Morning.
This is the Daily Thread of Operation Iraqi Freedom - Situation Room - LIVE THREAD.
It is designed for general conversation about the events of the day. In depth discussion of events should be left to individual threads - but links to the threads or other articles is highly encouraged. This allows us to stay abreast of the situation in general, while also providing a means of obtaining specific information.
Please have mercy on us dial up limited FReepers! Limit the big graphics, post links instead. A brief description of what the graphic is would help! If you post graphics, please "size" them so that our browsers continue to load the rest of the thread!

To all who helped this get started and keep it running, thank you!
Special thanks to Null and Void for keeping these threads running on the weekends, Mo1 for the screamer, the AdminMods for their tolerance, mhking for the video links, Ragtime Cowgirl for her Exclusive Live Transcription Service, Fledermaus for his 15 minutes of fame, and, of course, Belly Girl...

ARMY FLAG
MARINE FLAG
NAVY FLAG
AIR FORCE FLAG
COAST GUARD FLAG
NORTH AMERICAN AEROSPACE DEFENSE FLAG
UNITED STATES SPACE COMMAND FLAG
OK - Does that imply some order in terms of priority?
Or is your list ordered in terms of elevation of their "foxholes"?
Army = digs the deepest holes
Marines = can't dig as deep (because the sand falls in the hole)
Navy = fights at sea level
Air Force = fights up in the air
Coast Guard = only fights in Washington 'cause they have no budget to buy a shovel 8<)
NORAD = fights over Canada from a "foxhole" in Cheyenne Mountain
Space Command = what's a foxhole?

How come they don't post pics of the female correspondents showering? The female correspondents were too busy taking pictures of the Brit soldiers showering...

here's part of the email my brother sent me:
"To the perspective of the tanks, a studio camera looks like a missile or a RPG pointed right at them. Especially if it is hanging off of the edge of a terrace. The tankers saw this and did not want to take any chances.
As an ex-army tanker myself (24th Mechanized Infantry Division now known as the 3rd Mechanized Infantry Division out of Fort Stewart, Georgia), I can understand the tankers not wanting to take any chances. Going into a well developed city is the most dangerous part of being a tanker. The armor on the top of the tank is not very thick and can be penetrated with anything over 50 caliber. Most of the armor of a tank is in the front or sides of a tank. Anyone with a RPG in a skyscraper can take out a tank. Why take a chance at dying?"

Why does my cat's breath smell of tuna and salmon?
Now, my dogs' breath smells of whatever they have eaten, and who knows what that is.

The problem with Shep's argument is that in Iraq, the U.S. Constitution has no bearing. There are no first amendment rights when you have a minder standing behind you holding a gun up to your head.
These people were duly warned. They made the choice to go and now they must accept responsibility for their decision. They are in the middle of a war - not a hollywood production - they need to wisen up and stop believing everything that comes out of Baghdad Bob's mouth!

So we're supposed to ignore their possible shading the truth just because they have a minder? Sorry, that doesn't wash with me.Is it worth having your brains blown out? Of course some of them have no brains to begin with.
To: Tree of Liberty
Thanks for the pics, now picture facing each of those guys straight on.

But Pipes, who IS an expert on " THE ARAB STREET ", has been saying the same sort of good things, for more than a year ! I am NOT " off base ", at all. The writer, of that article, is NOT an ARAB, and is just grousing.
