Operation Iraqi Freedom
This thread is dedicated to the brave men and women of the
Armed Forces of the United States of America.
"Wish You Were Here"
For all the free people that still protest.
You're welcome. We protect you and you are protected by the best.
Your voice is strong and loud,
but who will fight for you? No one standing in your crowd.
We are your fathers, brothers, and sons,
wearing the boots and carrying guns.
We are the ones that leave all we own,
to make sure your future is carved in stone.
We are the ones who fight and die,
We might not be able to save the world, Well, at least we try.
We walked the paths to where we are at
and we want no choice other than that.
so when you rally your group to complain,
take a look in the back of your brain.
In order for that flag you love to fly
wars must be fought and young men must die.
We came here to fight for the ones we hold dear.
If that's not respected, we would rather stay here.
So please stop yelling, put down your signs,
and pray for those behind enemy lines.
When the conflict is over and all is well,
be thankful that we chose to go through hell.
Corporal Joshua Miles and all the boys from 3rd Battalion 2nd Marines,
Kuwait 3/9/2003

Good Morning.
This is the Daily Thread of Operation Iraqi Freedom - Situation Room - LIVE THREAD.
It is designed for general conversation about the events of the day. In depth discussion of events should be left to individual threads - but links to the threads or other articles is highly encouraged. This allows us to stay abreast of the situation in general, while also providing a means of obtaining specific information.
Please have mercy on us dial up limited FReepers! Limit the big graphics, post links instead. A brief description of what the graphic is would help! If you post graphics, please "size" them so that our browsers continue to load the rest of the thread!

Special thanks to Null and Void for keeping these threads running on the weekends, Mo1 for the screamer, the AdminMods for their tolerance, mhking for the video links, Ragtime Cowgirl for her Exclusive Live Transcription Service, Fledermaus for his 15 minutes of fame, and, of course, Belly Girl...

I'm very upset about this; more pictures of THEM tonight than anything else.

CNN,
USAF offloading heavy armor, (M1 Abrams tanks) in north Iraq with 173rd Airborne.
They showed NV video of ramp down with tank coming off. Aircraft appeared to be a C-17.
Did the Dixie Shix win anything last night?

Narcissism on the part of the press is hardly surprising is it? If they spent some of the time they spend on press analysis on actual news, think how well informed we might be?

Yeah, the two Skyboys (in Doha and Baghdad), among others, are a wee bit too fluffed up with themselves.

I'd be interested in hearing a discussion about this incident between a "hotel jockey" reporter and an embedded reporter, wouldn't you?

I bet the embedded reporters would have fired on that building.

selective compassion and selected outrage...

I have no problem with those Islamakazis jumping into the meat grinder... The sooner they're all embedded with the 70 virgins, the better off we'll all be...including the Intelliraqis.

I'd like to read one straight news story on the front page of a major daily paper. It can't be done.
To: Slip18
re. dead reporters.
Forgive my subtlety. My "friendly fire" analogy was to illustrate the absurb and exaggerated reports over loss of their own -- as opposed to losses of our fighters.
They "report" friendly fire incidents, yet burn our boys in effigy over killed journalists. If there was any consistency in their reports, they would have called or related this "friendly fire," or "collateral damage," i.e., firing upon the wrong target. If we took out a sniper, then it was a legitmate attack. All I hear from the media is that there "were no" snipers in the hotel or near the Al-J building. But they go no further: they attribute malign intentions, as opposed to other "friendly fire" incidents in which the loss of life is reported as regrettable.
Consistency would require that, without acceptance of the presence of snipers among them, they attribute these incidents to accidental or unintended causes. All I see is damnation. They suck.

Shep was responding to those Emails that DID say 'screw those journalists'....not to the Emailers who complain about the press in general.
Another story will come along to replace this one. Based on the ratings, not too many people are hanging on Christine Amanpour's every word.

I wanted to clarify something real quick regarding all of this. I do not blame the military for firing back. If their sensors picked up a sniper flash from that area, by all means, fire.

The press is actually calling it a violation of the Geneva Convention, and is demanding an investigation. So they're claiming we aimed for them.
It's worse than I thought. Oh well, to be expected. History will not remember this. The press will NOT win this war.

grrr...selected=selective..
make that selective compassion and selective outrage.

The details may be wrong, but I still find it an interesting theory. There is a reason Putin said we were going to be sorry for this war, especially when he knew we could blow up Iraq many times over. Chaos was the battle plan, not conventional warfare. There is a long Cold War history in the region too.

Errie quiet over Baghdad this morning. No militia out to speak of. People very afraid, not sure what's up with Sodomy.
