Good Morning.

This is the Daily Thread of Operation Iraqi Freedom - LIVE THREAD.

It is designed for general conversation about the events of the day. In depth discussion of events should be left to individual threads - but links to the threads or other articles is highly encouraged. This allows us to stay abreast of the situation in general, while also providing a means of obtaining specific information.

Please have mercy on us dial up limited FReepers! Limit the big graphics, post links instead. A breif description of what the graphic is would help!

To all who helped this get started and keep it running, thank you!

Special thanks to Null and Void for keeping these threads running on the weekends, Mo1 for the screamer, the AdminMods for their tolerance, mhking for the video links, Ragtime Cowgirl for her Exclusive Live Transcription Service™, Fledermaus for his 15 minutes of fame, and, of course, Belly Girl...

They have rubber pads, but the M-1s are heavy. A poorly constructed road would not hold up very well.

Most of Saddams highways are thick concrete. (plenty of sand available)

What happened to all the furniture in the palaces? Do you think they had already been looted by the locals?

Basra's palace has been vacant for years. I don't know about the others. I assume the Bagdad ones have some furniture.

I just heard Shep say that we now have checkpoints at all roads leading out of the city. HA!

Good morning all! I just KNEW I'd miss something if I went to bed, and it looks like I was right!

It was hard to make out in the videophone cam, but the one in Baghdad seemed to be fairly empty. The one in Basra had a real video hookup on MSNBC and that was clearly pretty empty as you said.

I kinda liked the way the videophone camera covered the explosion of the horse statue. It was neat how you see the horse in pretty good detail because the camera was held steady and the blocks were allowed to be filled in. Then you see what looks like an MPEG processing error, but it is the horse exploding, and you get blocks of horse all over the screen. Then you see nothing but grey. It's almost better than seeing a full bandwidth camera, which you wouldn't be able to make out the explosion well unless it was run in slomo.

They should have some better vid on the blast, but it takes time to get it out. The vid/phone is still not ready for prime time in some places.

We've surrounded the Information Ministry too, although I think Baghdad Bob's entertainment value cannot be overstated.

ROFL! He is on the other side of the river! You can bet that we will see more of him. I was hoping a SAS sniper would cap him live on TV.

Petah Ahnet is a scumsucking whoreburger. I wish I were on the Palestine Hotel just so I could throw that greaseball off. He just said that Americans dropped "fiber bombs" to cut off the power and now Iraqis don't have water. Aaarrrggghhh, of all the people in the world, why is that traitor coming thru the bag cam mic! I'd rather listen to Baghdad Bob, at least he's funny.
