He was running a cult of personality on top his ruthless dictatorship.
An appearance by Saddam is not to inspire confidence but fear. It say's "I remain". It says "I will reach out from the grave to strike you down along with your family."
It gets more Orwellian by the day. He's not Stalin, he's Big Brother. I've read that he may have died as far back as 1998. I don't think I believe that though because one of the sons would have taken over or at least there would have been a big fight. What I DO believe is that we got all three of them and this charade is the only way the Gang of Thugs® can keep the wheels from coming off.
This regime is truly like the proverbial chicken without a head, running around in circles spouting blood, unaware that it is already dead.

This regime is truly like the proverbial chicken without a head, running around in circles spouting blood, unaware that it is already dead. A truly bizarre and fitting end to this regime. This seems to be unprecedented.

I've read that he may have died as far back as 1998. Someone might tell that to Dan Rather, because he thinks he interviewed him in person a month or two ago.

"What I DO believe is that we got all three of them and this charade is the only way the Gang of Thugs® can keep the wheels from coming off." I think that is a pretty accurate assessment.
