Dixie Chick Natalie Maines Now Claims Anti-Bush Comment Only A "Joke" (Desperation Time)

Dixie Chick Natalie Maines told a New Zealand TV reporter last week that her now-infamous slam at President George W. Bush was a joke. Maines admitted that she told a London concert audience that the group was ashamed that the President is from their home state of Texas, but added, "It was a joke and it wasn't planned. And it was really funny at the time. It got lots of cheers, and that's what it was meant for. You see the trouble that you can get into if you speak religion or politics. It gets people very upset." Maines issued a written apology after making the remark, but some over sensitive U.S. stations continued to ban the Chicks' music. Wonder if theyre still getting lots of play on radio Bagdhad?

SHEESH!!! Talk about pathetic excuses! The Dixie Chicks must really be getting desperate now as their careers go into the toilet.

It'll be interesting to see what happens when they start their U.S. tour at the end of the month.

Rappers can do what she did, so can rockers like Hynde or Vedder. Because their audiences dont hold the kind of allegiance to their country the way that country music fans do. Country fans are a breed apart, the kind of rugged individualists that this country was built by. Natalie Maines is a stone cold idiot for not knowing even the first thing about her main fan base. They arent just a bunch of apathetic imbeciles. They are proud Americans. It is difficult to believe that she could be so obtuse not to KNOW this.
She is reaping the rewards of her ignorance...JFK
To: PJ-Comix
Lie. She made the comment thinking it would endear her (and the Dixie Chicks) to the audience. No other thought process occurred.

And it was really funny at the time...
until I saw our record sales drop.
If it was just a funny joke, then why the sombre apology?

Almost all of the entertainment elite are alike. They shoot off their mouths, saying the dumbest things because they think it will play well with those of their ilk and the media. Then, when the public, who pays their way, begins to shun them, they panic and start backtracking. Its amazing how much these moronic air heads understand capitalism. In this respect, Jane Fonda is the protypical Dixie Chick, except she's not from Dixie, and she certainly isn't a Chick anymore.

As another freeper said insightfully: "hope she likes cheeseburgers, she'll be flipping them soon."
These brain donors have no idea how fleeting fame and how fickle the public can be. There are plenty of artists to take the Vichy Chicks' place. And they will.
