Great find on Gen. Brooks. He comes from a fine family.
Gen. Leo Brooks Sr., who lives in Alexandria with his wife and attended the city's now-shuttered Parker-Gray High School, declined to be interviewed and Vincent Brooks' sister, Marquita K. Brooks, a D.C. lawyer with the firm Humphries and Brooks, did not return phone calls.
Likewise, his uncle, Leo Sr.'s younger brother, state Rep. Francis Brooks, Vermont Democrat, declined to discuss his nephew.
But in an e-mail statement, Leo Brooks Sr. said that "my son is no hero."
"Those kids getting shot at and killed are. I will not exploit the hunger for knowledge, nor slip into a gloat for my son or my family, while other families weep. When the war is over, I will speak."
I am impressed.

I was way off with respect to location. From AP:
CAMP AS SAYLIYAH, Qatar (AP) - A car exploded near a coalition checkpoint in western Iraq, killing three coalition soldiers, a pregnant woman and the car's driver, U.S. Central Command said Friday.
A Central Command spokesman said it appeared to be a suicide attack and occurred 80 miles east of the Syrian border and northwest of Baghdad.
In a statement, Central Command said the incident occurred Thursday evening about 11 miles southwest of the Haditha Dam, when a civilian vehicle approached a coalition checkpoint.
``A pregnant female stepped out of the vehicle and began screaming in fear,'' a statement said. ``At this point the civilian vehicle exploded, killing three coalition force members who were approaching the vehicle and wounding two others.''
It said the woman and the driver also were killed.
Jim Wilkinson, spokesman at U.S. Central Command, said the incident showed the Iraqi leadership was using desperate measures to remain in power.
Earlier this week U.S. officials have said a man posing as a taxi driver staged a suicide attack that killed four soldiers at an Army checkpoint.
``The more desperate the regime gets, the more desperate their tactics become,'' Wilkinson said. ``This is just the latest tragic example.''

I haven't heard anyone make note of the fact that if we have a fight for the city it will be extremely helicopter intensive. Mornin' Vermonter. Quiet night on the fronts, based on the posting count.
Indeed, you are right about the uninformed discussion of getting control of the city. The plan for any given building would be to start from the top, so the bad guys can be flushed out "into the street" instead of cornered. I think Baghdad will take some time, and that our actions will be methodical, not overwhelmingly crushing. As for the bigger picture, I like the idea of declaring victory, and setting up an interim government outside of Baghdad.
