Miller issued the orders after two Jewish lawmakers threatened to stage a boycott of the legislative session if the phrase was not removed.

It's two Jewish Democrats; chances are, they're rabid, left-wing, gun-grabbing liberals (hopefully, I'm wrong). If they want to sit the session out, that's fine with me.

Are these the same cranks who wanted Santa banned from Kensington? Wait 'til they figure out they live in Maryland. Of course, there was that whining neurotic jerk who figured out there was a Cross in the heraldic imagery of the state flag. Maybe a new crusade to cut it out will be launched with support from the Satanic editorial board of The Sun. Why can't they just move to New York or Florida and harrass the Christians there? Or some atheist country like China, Albania, or Cambridge, Mass. where hatred of Jesus by cranky, unhappy neurotic people with nothing better to do is cultivated to an art form?

Hint:

Maryland was founded by people who worshipped JESUS!

I don't believe that these so-called leftist Jews represent the true Jewish religion, anymore than the so-called leftist Christian church represent the true Christian religion. These men didn't care one bit about any God, or prayer, this was a leftist political move.

The article wasn't entirely clear about whether or not these prayers are rotated among differing religions. I have assumed that prayers of this sort are rotated, but the article mentions a "string of Baptist prayers". So perhaps they are not. I think they absolutely should be.

I don't think anyone ought to feel obligated to water down their prayer. In the presence of Jewish prayer, I would assume that the rabbi, being a good hearted religious person, is including me in his goodwill. I don't see it as he demanding that I DO anything in particular.

Of course, if I were LOOKING for something to be offended over...

The pastor was well within his right to refuse to compromise on the prayer. They invited him (AND his belief system) to pray, knowing who he prays TO. It is ridiculous for these people to condone prayers to "Allah", "Baboo" or any other god in their chambers.....but not Jesus Christ.

I see alot of flaming on this pastor here.....but I gotta say that our nation is in the trouble it is because of compromised values and integrity. Enough of the PC junk! I wouldn't pray either if I couldn't ask the prayer in my Lord's name.....because it would be of no effect..... nothing but empty words and a waste of my time and energy.

John 16

23In that day you will no longer ask me anything. I tell you the truth, my Father will give you whatever you ask in my name.

Jewish lawmakers threaten walk-out over reference to Jesus

Pretty funny considering that because of its opposition to believers in Jesus as the Messiah, Judaism since the first century has not been the same Judaism as that up until the first century. It has almost become an article of faith that to be a "real" Jew one must disbelieve that Jesus was the Messiah. Judaism since the first century has been profoundly shaped by its reaction to Christian theology. It would be interesting to contrast pre-Christian Jewish references to prophecies about the Messiah with post-Christian references to see which were no longer cited because to do so would be to support the Christian claim that Jesus was the Messiah.

I read this post last night and was too disgusted to reply.

As I have mentioned in other postings, PC is going to destroy this country.
Every whinny little puke in this country has to complain about some stupid little offense. This includes many of those who posted here last night !!

When I was in public school, there were Christians and Jews.
I remember one home room, where the teacher had us read a bible passage each morning. The Jews read from the Old Testament, and the Christians usually read from the New.
No one complained. OK, that was 40 years ago, and I will concede that requiring to read from the bible is not now appropriate.
I have to question the true motive of any Jew that is "offended" at the word Jesus.
I have known many Jewish people in Memphis, and have found many to be among the nicest of my friends. They would NEVER carp about something this ridiculous.

Political Correctness is chipping away at everything that has made this country what it is.
How much more of this crap will we have to be subjected to?

Did I flag everybody?

::Sigh:: It's always sumpn'.

As a Noachide I grow extremely tired of the replaying of the same old song over and over again--Jews representing "freedom of conscience" and chr*stians representing objective religious truth that transcends all other concerns. Maybe it's time that Jews cut the "pluarsims" crap and started speaking the language of religious objectivity?

I am a non-Jew who believes that the Torah is the Absolute Objective Truth. Where do I fit in in this little dialogue? Nowhere apparently. I believe praying to J*sus or anyone else other than to the True G-d is wrong--not in a sense of insensitivity, but an act of idolatry. But is anyone going to inject that position? No. It's always liberal Jews vs. pious chr*stians. Judaism always gets cast in the role of the advocate of religious subjectivism while chr*stianity represents simple truth. What a chillul HaShem.

Because of the very nature of religion no sincere chr*stian, however pro-Jewish, can in good conscience not pray to the Nazarene. It doesn't matter how politically incorrect it is or how much trouble it causes, they must put their religion first just as everyone must. I don't defend idolatrous prayer, but I do understand that the "pluralism argument" is sheer poppycock, however embedded it is in our American (enlightenment/Jeffersonian) consciousness.

Instead of demanding that chr*stians stop praying to J*sus in the name of "tolerance" and "pluarlism" (which two things are totally irrelevant anyway), why not tell them the Truth--that J*sus isn't G-d and that it is forbidden to pray to him or to any other entity other than HaShem? I realize Jews haven't been in a position to do this for most of two millenia, but that is no excuse in this day and age.

I will gladly support Theocratic legislation against praying to J*sus. However, anti-J*sus legislation based on the theory that J*sus represents the "reactionary" concept of Objective Religious Truth (and the concomitant implication that Judaism is opposed to Objective Religious Truth) is absolutely blasphemous. Once again Jews are cast in the role of opposition, not to false religion, but to religion per se. How tiresome this grows.

I wish some of you on the two conventional sides of this issue would put yourselves for just a moment in the shoes of a Noachide. If you're really that "tolerant" it shouldn't be that hard for you!

This is outrageous -- but not surprising, in these pathetic times for Christians.

The article says the preacher was preceded by three rabbis, to whom the Christian majority apparently didn't object. Yet, I imagine if they went over the rabbis words they could find something objectionable -- at the very least the failure to mention Jesus.

What is it that makes so many of you feel you need to push your beliefs down the throats of others? Jesus said treat others like you'd like them to treat you. I appreciate others not pushing their God down my throat, and so I don't do it to others. Show a little respect for others' rights to not have to suffer through your haranguing. So many people here sound like they expect to get brownie points from God because they are "sticking up for Jesus," "proclaiming his Lordship," or whatever. I think God is beyond either appreciating or getting upset over things like this.

As a Christian, I support the rights of those Jewish people, and frankly, feel sorry that they needed to go out of their way to ask for some respect.

Paradoxically, a walk-out over a Muslim cleric's prayer opening a Washington state legislative session last month backfired on one Christian lawmaker.

Once again, the reason for this blatant double standard is the (perhaps unconscious) classification of people in this country into "host" and "guest" populations. While the "guests" have the right to protest the religious beliefs of the "hosts" (ie, the Jewish liberals in Maryland), the "host population" can never protest the religious beliefs of "guests" (ie, the chr*stian in Washington State who walked out on an islamic prayer). It is this difference in treatment meted out to "hosts" and "guests" that allegedly assures "religious liberty," ie, that the "hosts" cannot "impose" their views and that the "guests" are free to practice theirs.

Of course this is hypocrisy to the nth degree, but the most distressing thing of all is that liberals such as Dershowitz (who is still crying in his beer because his "good friend" Al Gore isn't leading the war on Iraq) claim they do not recognize any difference between "host" and "guest" populations. But if they did not, then all religions would be treated with equal sensitivity--which they obviously are not.
