Praying we don't have massacres in the city ...This is the most important thing, and the only thing, we can do. The extent of the damage to the population is going to be determined solely by the regime and the thugs, there is little we can to about it. Frankly, if they "rise up" too soon, before we have some ability to protect them, the damage might be worse.
According to reports I've heard, Saadumb designed the newer parts of the city to be "controlled" using his armor. By the end of tonight, it appears we will be in what I've called a couple times, "bombardment position" most of the way around the city. From there we will be able to do selective forays into the city with a pretty good degree of safety, and the attitude of each individual will allow them to take up with us or fight or take our protection as they sees fit. Only time will tell the outcome of that. We will be able to turn the tables on Saadumb, and use the layout of the city in our favor.
I don't fear a great deal of problems with this, though it may take some time, and it is certainly possible the city could fall with a resounding CRASH, though I really don't expect that. Massacres by the regime will hasten that fall, though, not lengthen it.
Other than massacre, the big question for the citizens is still chemical weaponry.
There is one, and only one thing I fear as far as our troops are concerned, and that is those bloody Koronut(sp) anti-armor missiles from Russia. If that is not myth, or they haven't been neutralized, they could be big trouble for our boys.

Seems to me that if we have secured the massive airport and grounds, then it would be a good place to take in the refugees for the short term(24-48 hours or so) That's another good possibility. Big buildings; security systems are in place to physically screen and separate innocents from "bad guys," etc. If it's much of a story, we'll know after the action is done.

Just avoid the chit chat

There are some *GREAT* childhood stories in the thread (if you want to smile, read back in the thread -)I agree. I was very grateful for the break in the tension, and the humor and humanity as our guys face who knows what. When stuff happens, we're on it. In between, I'd kiss commish for his story (on the cheek, of course).

Nicely Done.

I know these discussions get off on tangents, but this is getting a little ridiculous.
I'm on here everyday reading and keeping up. This has been a VERY eventful day.
"Hey, are you from Pensacola?", "Did you go to school at xxxx?" could better be served on Freepmail, couldn't it?

SkyNews could be right...but to focus on the negative to the exclusion of all else is deceit...propaganda at it's most destructive. Ptui! There's no honorable reason for any responsible journalist to choose to trust Iraqi Info Min. over Pres. Bush and CENTCOM. None.

Commish definately did a beautiful job with that one. Dave, when it gets serious, we are there with you. But there are a few slack times each day, and we socialize a bit. We all know there are fine men and women in harm's way, and we are eternally greatful to them. Besides, how else will Poser fet his 4000?

SkyNews is saying that a missile hit a village and killed innocent Iraqis. I can't print how I'd respond to SkyNews.
