Celebrity TV journalist Geraldo Rivera kicked out of Iraq: Pentagon
24 minutes ago
WASHINGTON (AFP) - Celebrity television journalist Geraldo Rivera, who has been on assignment covering the US-led war in Iraq (news - web sites), has been told by US military officials that he is no longer welcome to accompany US troops there.
"I can confirm that it has been done," said military spokesman Navy Lieutenant Commander Charles Owens on Monday, contacted at Central Command headquarters in Qatar.
Owens said Rivera, a star of the Fox News television network, was not embedded with troops, but had been "asked to leave the unit he was with."
Military officials were short on details about reasons for Rivera's dismissal, but according to US news reports, Rivera was told to leave Iraq after an on-air appearance during which he drew a map in the sand revealing information about US troop locations.

What's this I read? Spongebob is giving away troop positions? How does he do this from underwater? Has he teamed up with that AWOL dolphin?

"To give him credit, he may be overdramatic and tabloid-like when he reports but he is not an idiot!"
Hmm, I dunno. He's fun and even likeable, but he's definitely an idiot.

Don't you think it is strange that Roger Ailes would have let him do his report live this morning if Fox had been notified that Geraldo was kicked out? Wouldn't the protocol be to notify the top guy at the network before telling the other press? Very odd.

see post 22 for details on the stomach!
I don't care if FOXnews keeps Geraldo or not, he's not very hard news. MSNBC, before this Arnett thing, actually wasn't doing too bad. They had these very fact-specific, meaty broadcasts from Chip Reid and others. Some times I find myself flipping between FOX and MSNBC looking for the "hard" news from the frontline, and Rivera's news reports have been too chatty -- too much about, well, him.

"Actually as you can see by my posts I don't mind Geraldo. "
Sorry, the message was not directed to you, I just hit reply at the bottom of your message to add to the ongoing group. Sorry. Tim
