Tony Blair has told officials to halt a £10billion defence contract won by a French firm - as revenge for Jacques Chirac's veto on UN backing for the war on Iraq.
He has ordered Ministers to stop the biggest maritime contract in British history going to French shipbuilders.
The deal for two nuclear-powered aircraft carriers which will be a lynchpin of Britain's defences for the next 20 years was split between UK-based BAE Systems and French firm Thales.
Thales were awarded their share on condition that much of the work was carried out in British shipyards, saving up to 10,000 jobs.
Now, following the US Pentagon's decision to ban any military contracts or co-operation with France, there is a move to rewrite the contract and switch all the work to British firms.

I heard France's new flag is white, with a yellow stripe down the middle, and a brown pinstripe in the center.

How dare you denigrate French naval might! Why, they have dominated the seas since Trafalger! And that carrier. It dominates the seas for tens of meters around it's drydock!
I hope we follow their lead...not just with France, but Mexico, germany etc.
I'm really curious to see what Bush does with mexico later

The Charles De GALL aircraft carrier can't go in a straight line since the port propeller fell off. They can circle around Saddam like a mofo though.

No kidding, the last French carrier was a disaster. One of its propellers fell off on its first voyage
The deck was too short for the airplanes they wanted to use

Perhaps the Brits are using this as a way out of a contract with the Frogs who couldn't get their air craft carrier out of port!

This is an excellent idea and one that should be emulated here in the USA. I'm sure that some defense contracts are going to French, Canadian, or German companies. We should stop, cancel, prevent any of these contracts now and in the future. It makes no sense to fund these anti-American regimes. Maybe O'Reilly, or someone with that exposure level, can do an expose on these anti-American regimes doing military work for us.

How sad for the French that they insist on electing gutless leaders.
Or is it that gutless men are all that are available?

Haha, Good movie. He's always good for a laugh. I guess when you shot straight ether into your bellybutton, and outlived your friends' deadpool, it's no surprise if you turn out like a sh*thouse rat with an Aspen compound.
