Tony Blair has told officials to halt a £10billion defence contract won by a French firm - as revenge for Jacques Chirac's veto on UN backing for the war on Iraq.
He has ordered Ministers to stop the biggest maritime contract in British history going to French shipbuilders.
The deal for two nuclear-powered aircraft carriers which will be a lynchpin of Britain's defences for the next 20 years was split between UK-based BAE Systems and French firm Thales.
Thales were awarded their share on condition that much of the work was carried out in British shipyards, saving up to 10,000 jobs.
Now, following the US Pentagon's decision to ban any military contracts or co-operation with France, there is a move to rewrite the contract and switch all the work to British firms.

Now, following the US Pentagon's decision to ban any military contracts or co-operation with France I usually don't miss EXCELLENT news like the above. Anybody remember that happening?

All Right!!!! this is GREAT!!!
Back when Clinton was president, I kept reading about Blair's admiration for him, and figured this guy was a real dope, just like Bill!
He's no Bill Clinton!
Clinton would have made it his mission in life to kiss Jacques' butt until he forgave the U.S. for being such an annoyance.
Next - Bush and Blair must be persuaded NOT to go back to the UN for help rebuilding Iraq. Tell Kofi Annan to go to France for funds; we've got to spend ours doing the UN's job in Iraq.

Apparently Jacques failed to recognize that some world leaders have backbones!
Now - if we can just get President Bush to cut all aid to Turkey.
Turkey is WORSE than France - Americans will lose lives because of the Turks denial of a point to launch a 2nd front.
Hmmmmmm..... Turkey.... full of Muslims.... they're just like the rest of the Islamic nations!

Well I guess we have an idea what that unhappiness at the EU meeting between Blair and Chirac was about a week or so back?
