The Predator cost is wrong. I think it is more like $7M each. Still expensive, but nowhere like $40M. I think they purchase them in lots of 6 with controller or something like that, so that could account for the $40M cost.

• They can now confirm rumors that special forces are operating in "chat chimal"(? help ?) area, but are not allowed to say exactly where.
• Brits are NOW penetrating into Basra - moving in street by street.

  CNN making the silly (to me) claim that "control of Basra is essential if supplies are to move north"... Silly to me because it does NOT straddle the main road north - UmmQasr(sp?) does, but is a side city quite a few miles away from the road. I don't even believe Iraqi artillery remaining in Basra is capable of reaching that road nowadays. Certainly, total control of Basra would be nice to have, but a lack of it is not going to materially affect the movement of supplies.

Truly. My dad was a corpsman in the 50's and he told me a story about a helicopter accident which their training anticipated to the extent that corpsmen were laying within feet of the man who was injured and his life was saved.

Good morning,

Just finished reading this thread - thank you all for helping me keep up to date. Several posts back, there was discussion about the request from Saudi Arabia to stop cruise missle flights. Apparently a malfunction has caused several to land within their borders. I watched a Pentagon briefing yesterday (Torie and a general - can't recall his name). The general explained that 1% of cruise missles flights experienced malfuncions and this problem was being investigated. Obviously, 99% were peforming as designed - an excellent statistic.
