Good Morning.
This is the Daily Thread of Operation Iraqi Freedom - LIVE THREAD.
It is designed for general conversation about the events of the day. In depth discussion of events should be left to individual threads - but links to the threads or other articles is highly encouraged. This allows us to stay abreast of the situation in general, while also providing a means of obtaining specific information.
Please have mercy on us dial up limited FReepers! Limit the big graphics, post links instead. A breif description of what the graphic is would help:
To all who helped this get started, thank you!
Special thanks to An.American.Expatriate for staring the daily threads, Mo1 for the screamer, the AdminMods for their tolerance, mhking for the video links, and, of course, Belly Girl...

Seriously, though, I feel for her. I left a wife of 4 months when I went to 'Nam for 13 months, and it was rough on both of us.
I had weekly mail and cassette tapes most of the time, but there's just no substitute for having him home!
Hey, SoldiersGirl, Mrs. U and I are praying hard for you and yours, and will gladly fix or buy you dinner any time you drive down to Austin. Chin up, and thanks for your sacrifice!

Fox had on something boring and I clicked over to CNN for a moment today and my wife was yelling at me. Actually at that moment, CNN had an interesting clip on but my wife was worried that we would give them ratings.

CORRECTION - the man on FNC earlier that I said was part of the Iraqi National Congress, is actually part of the
Future of Iraq Project. He may be part of both, but Fox only just mentioned the Iraq Project.

I still have all my tapes, but no tape player so my kids/grandkids can hear them. I forgot all about those. That 'Free' in corner and the $ 1.oo per carton cigs were cool though.

Great, now I checked in there and Chris Dickey from Newsweek is saying that the Iraqis are not going to welcome us. The anger on the Arab streets is mounting and the Americans aren't seeing the real costs of war. We are not seeing the bloody civilians.

...the soldiers interviewed said the followed their standard misfire proceedures. Good for the US Army. One thing very few civilians will ever be able to appreciate about the military is how the military trains their people to react automatically and precisely in the event of an emergency. I had three life-threatening situations when I was in the AF, and in every case, looking back on how I reacted, it was exact and immediate. Saved my life twice, and led me to do my duty without question the other time.
I have never seen anybody else trained that way... in most fields it is only "experience" which gets you there --- like 15 years driving a bulldozer. The military takes 20 year olds and gives them that ability in months. It is called discipline and following orders, but trust in your superior officers and training is also involved.
Civilians seldom have a similar opportunity.

If/when you get a tape recorder, it's a fairly simply procedure to get them on your computer in digital form, so there won't be any more degradation of the sound. Let me know if you want the instructions.

I think Bush, Inc is going to send the Kurds into Baghdad and leave our boys outside the city to pick off escapees.
Wouldn't that be poetic justice to allow the Kurds to kick fanny and take the boy out? I'd love it!
