Good Morning.
This is the Daily Thread of Operation Iraqi Freedom - LIVE THREAD.
It is designed for general conversation about the events of the day. In depth discussion of events should be left to individual threads - but links to the threads or other articles is highly encouraged. This allows us to stay abreast of the situation in general, while also providing a means of obtaining specific information.
Please have mercy on us dial up limited FReepers! Limit the big graphics, post links instead. A breif description of what the graphic is would help:
To all who helped this get started, thank you!
Special thanks to An.American.Expatriate for staring the daily threads, Mo1 for the screamer, the AdminMods for their tolerance, mhking for the video links, and, of course, Belly Girl...

Arnett just ruined his career....my god!Seems to be a lot of that going around...
To: sciencediet
Could Ki$$ing Iraqi 'a$$ets' be what helped him stay there (besides working for Nat. Geo.)? Could he have had a gun to his head? He's long been marching to his own drummer... IMO, Arnett made a calculated self-serving move. Yes, Iraq military was there, and he had to be careful what he said. But I don't believe he was forced to give the interview, i.e., he could have stuck to reporting his observations as well as his minder would let him. I think he was sucking up in order to be freed from a minder, so he could get stories his peers could not (or, so he could make up stories, as is his wont, e.g. US use of poison gas on its own troops).

Peter Arnett rests after a hard day of trashing the United States

I don't think Arnett will be leaving Iraq the same way he arrived.

ABC's senior correspondents can't be bothered to attend the daily CENTCOM briefings and don't hear the facts from those who wrote the war plan and execute it daily. ABC reporters would rather go with an unreliable source...and to LIE. Why mince words. This isn't simple error. They are intentionally lying. Bigtime journalists caught or promoting a verifiable Bigtime lie ought to have their Bigtime licences revoked....pronto. There's a reason Super Bowl ads cost so much. Those mighty pens are powerful.

Oh yes!!!

Well, I'll give mabye a 5% chance he was ordered to do this "interview" and say what he said.
But given his past and his statements when NOT in Iraq, I think 5% is generous.

The new map is up. Many thanks for the timely update!

Theoretically, with a realtime trace on the audio and knowing the position of the cams (if they are seperated by some few hundred feet or more) we could triangulate the audio to give positions of the explosions.

At the break, Lester Holt (MSNBC) said they'd have their report from Baghdad next. (7:12 EST)
Let's see if it's Benedict Ahhhnett!

Radio/electronic engineers help me out here. In Baghdad, Iraq, at the market downtown. The antennas look like a hot item. TV antennas?
