Good Morning.
This is the Daily Thread of Operation Iraqi Freedom - LIVE THREAD.
It is designed for general conversation about the events of the day. In depth discussion of events should be left to individual threads - but links to the threads or other articles is highly encouraged. This allows us to stay abreast of the situation in general, while also providing a means of obtaining specific information.
Please have mercy on us dial up limited FReepers! Limit the big graphics, post links instead. A breif description of what the graphic is would help:
To all who helped this get started, thank you!
Special thanks to An.American.Expatriate for staring the daily threads, Mo1 for the screamer, the AdminMods for their tolerance, mhking for the video links, and, of course, Belly Girl...

You're talking about those aerial photos that Powell showed where those trucks were seen pulling up to a site and Blix later said that when they inspected the site, nothing suspect was there, right? I think Blix also said those were petroleum trucks or something and completely dismissed Powell's assertion.

A still image taken off video shows explosions lighting up the night sky over Baghdad, March 30, 2003. U.S. warplanes struck Baghdad with bombs and missiles in unrelenting air attacks on Sunday after an Iraqi army officer killed four American soldiers in a suicide bombing. Some of the most ferocious air strikes of the war hit government targets in Baghdad in waves and repeatedly blasted Republican Guard positions circling the capital. REUTERS TV |

No.....we can't bomb a oil trench fire to put it out...a flying tanker like they use out west to put out forest fires could put it out....

Would those be the ones that Blix said were the mobile food testing labs, because that's what the Iraqis told he? Or would those be the Mobile Labs that the Iraqis turn the documents over to the UN about the Monday before the shooting started?
The Decontamination truck was in the presentation that Powell gave to the UN. It was shown outside of a ammunition storage bunker a couple hrs before a UN inspection team arrived but was not there when they arrived. The Inspectors response to this info was that it was not an important or incriminating piece of evidence, this would be normal ops around weapons storage facilities.

...the deception that was going on in Turkey. As is now plain, the Turk/Kurd (and Iran?) situation was and is a potential flash point that would be blamed on the US if ignited. A Turk/Kurd bloodbath in Iraq would have enormous ramifications, as would the annexation of Iraqi land and oil wells by Turkey and/or Iran. I think that our desire to place troops in Turkey was more to control Turkish designs in Iraq and on the Kurds than anything else. I think the Turks knew that but neither side can say so.
To: Green
I think this is where Blix paused, and addressing Powell assertions directly, said the trucks could be anything and it proved nothing.

Well, I'm convinced that short of Saddam making a direct chemical/bio on Hans himself, there is nothing that would prove anything to Blix.

Hey, Dog. Just got back from the beach. What's this about the fedayeen in Mosul? Isn't that in Kurdistan?

"If that was Bankhead and Gordon, errr..I mean Veteran's Memorial and Mableton parkway(I keep forgetting.....) If that intersection (in Bagdad) were Hwy 41 (er, Cobb Parkway) and Windy Hill, there'd be three accidents per hour.
Hmmmmmn. Potential sabotage: Crash cars in Cobb Cty -> Tie up traffic during rush hour.
But nobody would notice; ya can't drive anywhere anyhow during rush hour.
