NEW YORK (AP) -- A Columbia University professor told an anti-war gathering that he would like to see "a million Mogadishus" -- referring to the 1993 ambush in Somalia that killed 18 American servicemen.

At Wednesday night's "teach-in" on the Columbia campus, Nicholas De Genova also called for the defeat of U.S. forces in Iraq and said, "The only true heroes are those who find ways that help defeat the U.S. military." And he asserted that Americans who call themselves "patriots" are white supremacists.

Is it all right to post his e-mail address?

It is

npd18@columbia.edu

You can verify this information by copying and pasting the following link to Columbia's directory of names:

This is obviously public information.

He'll hear from me--albeit politely--about his despicable death wish.

Best regards,

Well, in the hope that his e-mail box is also not full, I just sent him the following e-mail:

Dear Mr. De Genova,

I read the Associated Press report of your remarks at an anti-war rally. It was reported that you said the following:

At Wednesday night's "teach-in" on the Columbia campus, Nicholas De Genova also called for the defeat of U.S. forces in Iraq and said, "The only true heroes are those who find ways that help defeat the U.S. military." And he asserted that Americans who call themselves "patriots" are white supremacists.

De Genova's comments about defeating the United States in Iraq were cheered by the crowd of 3,000, Newsday reported. But his mention of the Somali ambush -- "I personally would like to see a million Mogadishus" -- was largely met with silence.

The arrogance and stupidity of these comments are breathtaking. You have said that you want your country defeated in battle and that you wish for the death of millions of American soldiers. You have labeled more than a hundred million Americans (since polls say fully 70% of Americans support the war) as "white supremacists." What gives you the intellectual or moral right to mouth such filth? It is one thing to disagree with a course of action our government takes. That is a right of all Americans, and we are justly proud of it. But to wish the deaths of your fellow countrymen and to slander those who disagree with you is not dissent. It is small-minded cowardice.

Actually, the AP reporter hadn't done his homework. Had he done so, he would have turned up your remarks last year in which you said that the Holacaust was the heritage of the Palestinians, not the Israelis. You are at least consistently stupid.

So, enjoy your moment in the sun. Your academic career, such as it ever was, will soon be toast. When America get done with you, you will be lucky to find a job teaching personal hygiene to 10th graders (assuming that is a subject about which you have any knowledge).

Blau993 (actually I signed my name and home town -- maybe he'll show up on my doorstep to punch me out)

We now have to keep the pressure on Columbia to do the right thing.

Prof De Genova's comments are worse than presented here. He equates patriotism with genocide and white nationalism.

The good news is that Columbia's students are split about 50-50. http://www.columbiaspectator.com/vnews/display.v/SEC/War+in+Iraq
There will be a pro-war rally at Columbia on Wednesday at 12:15. The location is Low Plaza, which is at 116th street between Amsterdam and Broadway It is open to students from around the metropolitan area.
