When the liberal press feels a black General is not good enough.(Double Standard Alert)
Rush Limbaugh ^ | 28 March 2003 | Trueblackman

Brigadier General Vincent Brooks faces some outrageous and stupid questions at his daily Central Command briefings. Some of them deserve to be answered dead on, but because of political correctness and diplomacy and all that, CENTCOM can't always do that. I can, which is why I sometimes answer these questions in a mock briefing. On Thursday, I focused on a question by New York magazine's Michael Wolff.

Wolff said: "I mean no disrespect by this question, but I want to ask about the value proposition of these briefings. We're no longer being briefed by senior-most officers." The press pool applauded the question, which drew a rapier-quick response from Brooks who said, "I've gotten applause already. That's wonderful. I appreciate that."

Can you believe the audacity of complaining that Brigadier General Brooks isn't good enough for the press? If this had been a reporter from a conservative news source, the press would point out the fact that Brooks just happens to be the only African-American general on the scene. Charges of racism would be made, because this question's underlying meaning is clearly that Brooks can't possibly know anything.

This war is not about Michael Wolff's stupid stories in New York magazine. It's about saving lives, including his. This is not a criticism of General Schwarzkopf, but the leader of this Gulf War, General Tommy Franks, isn't going to be out there talking to these people every day. He's busy picking out targets and protecting our soldiers. By the way, Donald Rumsfeld nominated Brooks for appointment to the rank of brigadier general in June 2002. Just another example - like Colin Powell, Clarence Thomas and Condoleezza Rice - of African-Americans advancing more under GOP administrations than Democratic ones.

TB,
When Michael Wolff and his buddies gather for cocktails at the end of the day, I imagine that the first remark is something like, "Can you believe they sent that house n****r out to brief us again? Don’t they realize how self important we are? We deserve to be briefed by at least a three star"

The mean-spirited, arrogant, condescending, liberal presstitutes can't stand success by individuals that they have not anointed.

General officers are often political choices. Many times there are well qualified officers that are not from the West Point alumni up for general slots. They are sometimes passed over for a West Point Alumni. Sometimes the selection process can come right up and slap you in the face.

This is true, up to a point. I'm career military and have seen guys get better orders, etc based on who their golf partners are and not their combat ability, BUT a person does not make flag rank AND get command of a combat formation if they don't pack the gear to perform.

They don't think he is senior enough to serve them?

Rummy should promote him to Major General for having to deal with these press idiots, then they would be "getting briefed by someone more senior".

And we should do something about it. Instead it's always standard to let this kind of thing go by. General Brooks is a distinguished gentleman and Michael Wolf isn't good enough to stand beside the good General.

Reminds me of the time where we invited friends and family months in advance to invite whomever they wanted to a "fictious dinner"...the list was interesting.

My choice now would include General Brooks as the distinguished guest in a place of honor.

My other choice would be to invite Michael Wolf too...his place at the table? NONE...Michael's job would be to serve General Brooks first and when dinner was over Michael could do all dirty clean up which includes taking out the slop while we all adjourned to the living room for coffee.

I think that's an appropriate job for someone with so little respect for others not to mention Michael's lack of class.

How interesting. I never paid attention that he was "black." To me he was a wonderful AMERICAN soldier, that made us proud. He's been doing a fabulous job.

Absolutely! I'll second your post.

Gen. Brooks is the guy who'd lead you through the brick wall, not expect you to go through it for him. Just my professional opinion.
