Another Clinton quote, from David Letterman Show, 9/12/2002:
Letterman asked, "Are we going into Iraq? Should we go into Iraq? I'd like to go in. I'd like to get the guy. I don't like the way the guy looks."Clinton: "He is a threat. He's a murderer and a thug. There's no doubt we can do this. We're stronger; he's weaker. You're looking at a couple weeks of bombing and then I'd be astonished if this campaign took more than a week. Astonished."
I think I said that about him in Sept. 2000. But then so did a few thousand other people.
2 weeks of bombing, followed by 1 week of ground fighting. Once we hit the three week mark, we shall see. I think everybody including Clinton, assumed we would do the long term air thing for a while first before deploying our troops. The irony of course is, that if we just bombed for the first 9 days, before we sent the troops in, I bet the reporters wouldn't be bitching so much about us being bogged down 50 miles from Bagdad, because we would still be in Kuwait now.
Yes, you are are a roll!
From the Clinton camp in 1998:
"Iraq both poses a continuing threat to the the national security of the United States and international peace and security in the Persian Gulf region and remains in material breach of its international obligations...supporting and harboring terrorists."
And then this in 1998:
The current Iraqi regime has demonstrated its continuing hostility toward, and willingness to attack, the United States including by attempting in 1993 to assassinate the former President Bush and by firing on many thousands of occasions on the United States...
If it would take 3 weeks to do in Saddam then why didn't Clinton, given his 1998 statements? In attempting to set false expectations, he has simply indicted himself.
I heard Rush reading this today. He said it is where all the media got the idea that this was going to be fast and easy.
#&@% *&$#% media. They will listen to a Clymer and not anyone who knows what they are talking about.
