Good Morning.
This is the Daily Thread of Operation Iraqi Freedom - LIVE THREAD.
It is designed for general conversation about the events of the day. In depth discussion of events should be left to individual threads - but links to the threads or other articles is highly encouraged. This allows us to stay abreast of the situation in general, while also providing a means of obtaining specific information.
Please have mercy on us dial up limited FReepers! Limit the big graphics, post links instead. A breif description of what the graphic is would help:
Special thanks to null and void for keeping these running on the weekend, to all of you for keeping these threads alive, the AdminMods for their tolerance, mhking for the video links, and, of course, Belly Girl...
TOPICS: Breaking News; Foreign Affairs; Miscellaneous; News/Current Events; War on Terror

Frankly, I was hoping the CENTOM briefing would start and there would be no reporters there....all bored to death overnight! Would've been more informative.
I'm going to re-post this from one I put up earlier this morning. It explains a lot about these briefings.
I just remembered something which may explain the sulking among reporters at CENTCOM. There was a report in the WashPost last week about "Operation Messenger"...the administration's media rapid response team. The article went into much detail about how they would quickly shoot down erroneous stories, as well as getting out clarifying info in real time. There are hundreds of people at "Messenger" monitoring media reports throughout the world, correcting mistakes and adding to incomplete reports. Remember within minutes we were told "This is Shock & Awe"? It came from the Pentagon.
Occurs to me that is why we're getting so much more good info out of Pentagon reporters as opposed to those in Qatar. It's a hoot! Those sissies in CENTCOM didn't realize the admin is letting CENTCOM fight a war with the Iraqis while Washington takes care of the war with the media! CENTCOM reporters got snookered when they "drew this prized assignment".

I know. By the time I get home, I've got to scan at least 1,000 new threads. A wrap up with "just the facts" would help me keep up. (If that matters...;) )

It looks like we're starting to try to evacuate Basrah. An-Naseriyah as well? This should allow more direct urban action.
How bout these Iraqi exiles who say they want to come back and fight?

Thanks! However, too bad you couldn't get the ridiculous questions that the general had to wade through to be able to give those answers. : )

Dahling, you're mah-velous! Thanks.
The Beeb talking about US reinforcements. Analyst saying that it's a change in our strategy, we're taking a deep breath since the first one didn't work, so let's come up with a new one
*&%$#@! Freaking moron. You haven't been listening to Rummy. MUTE ON!

Yesterday's NYC protesters are now setting up in Washington, DC. I say bill them all for the expense of the real peacekeeping.....getting them off the streets.
To: Orlando; All
Orlando perhaps we WANTED it on to be able to see if/when they would put SH on.. as you know we are still unsure & some of the tapes.. valid or not, timely or not have been one of the sources. We each check out each others propaganda . Be quite sure they are doing it right. Frustrating to think you have a clue but there info/overview is so much better.
Nothing on local TV. I blew the BLUE screen & froze when I went to my very first ever live cam... so just depending on you to get cen cam info9. got speakers to work again.
As it was rubbish day, I threatened them REALLY good ! (g)

I am lmao, Steve, Edi and Brian on FNC just showed a scene going on now of an anti-war demonstration showing like 6 people laying in the street with no one but police around them......Steve says...Wow, look at the huge throngs of people there.......I love them, they have no desire to hide their feelings.

Why aren't those idiots summarily hauled off to jail? They shouldn't even be allowed enough time to disrupt traffic before being hauled off.

I say once arrested, do not release. Isn't there a National Security reason we can keep them locked up?
Any lawyers here: Is there any kind of a civil action we could initiate against these f*cks?

They've set fire to another one of the oil rings around the city.

protestors:
Dolly for Mayor premise. Sure you can walk, hold signs etc.
The roads will not be closed, If you chose to illegally walk, recline etc in them that is surely your choice & your friends / family are responsible to take what remains to the hospital or morgue.
It wouldn't happen too often.

Maybe General Franks decided he found more intelligence from the peasants of the Kuwaiti/Iraqi people and would rather answer their questions than spend another minute in the presence of the maroonic reporters. : )I don't know about anybody else but I don't want Franks to be spending 1 nanosecond talking to these clymers when he has far better things to do.
If I was running things I would assign an E2 to handle the briefings from now on.
