Woods Lends Support to Troops Overseas

26 March 2003 by Tiger Woods

I have great respect for the men and women fighting overseas to protect our way of life in Iraq and other parts of the world. As the son of an Army officer, I understand the strength, courage and discipline required to successfully carry out their missions in hostile environments and feel tremendous pride they are representing us.

Obviously, no one likes war. Our Congress and President tried hard to avoid the use of force, but ultimately decided it was the best course of action. I like the assertiveness shown by President Bush and think we owe it to our political and military leaders, along with our brave soldiers to be as supportive as possible during these difficult and trying times. I just wanted to take this opportunity to let our forces know that I am thinking about you and wishing you and your families the best.

How much class is it to shout Motherfuc** on a Saturday morning telecast of the US Open? Would you like to ask my three girls who were watching?

A PR release just is a PR release.

I'm not a big Tiger fan because all the media and he's always expected to win...

You don't like Tiger because of the media and their misguided expectation that he's always supposed to win? That's the media's problem not Tiger's, who has demonstrated time and time again that he's a class act.

You know, I don't care for golf either. And when Tiger showed up, I detested all the attention he got because I believed that some of it was because he is black. However, over the years, even though I have never met the man, I have come to like him as a person. I like the fact that for the most part he is non-political and plays his game - very well too, as all of you know. I read an article some time back comparing him to the Williams sisters. The sportsguy stated thank God that tennis stars do not stay that long on the sports scene while we will be graced to see Tiger well into his 60's. I hope the Marines, sailors, soldiers, and airmen get to see this quote.

As a sidenote, I do envy him somewhat the same way I envy Ann Coulter. Here is a guy that is doing what he loves and making tons of money for it. To him, it probably isn't even a job. How would any of you like that - able to play the game you love and get paid to do so?

Eartha Kitt is a BIG conservative republican. She gave Curtis Sliwa a surprise phone call for his birthday yesterday. She's also very pro-Bush, and pro-WOT.

*Ah! A lot of people are jealous of people who enjoy their jobs. I agree with you. I don't think Tiger considers pro-golf to be a 'job'. Too many people are disgusted with their jobs. Not many of us get to do things we love either.

I used to root against him because I wanted to see others win.

I am now forever a Tiger Woods fan.

Cursing like that was an unfortunate slip, but it happens. I don't think it indicates a character deep character fault.

At first I thought you meant James Woods the actor, who's been speaking in a conservative voice lately.

Why do so many people dislike people just because they are successful?

That didn't show class. He did apologize for it afterwards. He has obviously grown more mature since. People do make the wrong choices at times and mess up. When they do apologize, they are setting themselves apart. People like that aren't to be idolized, but they sure are better role models to look up to than most who will never fess up or own up to it. Great lessons in life can be taught from people like him. He is a case study for success in many areas.

Yeah, it would be a dream. An anti-war whacko accused me last week of being paid to support removal of Saddam. If only.
