A re-bombing of a presidential palace......

I have read that there were not only subterranian basements there but also tunnels to all over Baghdad. Could this have been one of those bombs that penetrate the earth (150 ft.?)before exploding? If so, might it also have set off stored bombs/munitions? It would account for the huge explosion.

No facts to substantiate, just my speculations.

You got the right idea on the bombing. They can be penetrated, but it has to be done layer by layer, hiting the same spot over and over, digging deeper and deeper each time. The tunnels have doors as you go through them. They absorb the explosion, so if you're in a differnt chamber, you may feel the earth move under your feet, but you can come out unscathed.
