Good Morning.
This is the Daily Thread of Operation Iraqi Freedom - LIVE THREAD.
It is designed for general conversation about the events of the day. In depth discussion of events should be left to individual threads - but links to the threads or other articles is highly encouraged. This allows us to stay abreast of the situation in general, while also providing a means of obtaining specific information.
Please have mercy on us dial up limited FReepers! Limit the big graphics, post links instead. A breif description of what the graphic is would help:
Special thanks to null and void for keeping these running over the weekend and Monday, to all of you for keeping these threads alive, the AdminMods for their tolerance, mhking for the video links, and, of course, Belly Girl...

God, I am listening to the Canadian question period in the Canadian Parliment.
Unknown to most, we Canadians have a number of troops involved in the war that are embedded with the American troops due to our military sharing agreements.
The Canadian Minister of National defence refuses to give out the locations or the number of troops working with the Americans. Says it puts troops in danager (but of course the Americans have been saying where their troops are). They are apparently not using force and will only shoot if fired opon.
Why doesn't the Canadian government just admit that they have troops fighting in this war. As a Canadian, I find my government's actions disgusting.
The government had to confirm yesterday that Canadians are on A-Wax planes directing bombing runs and we have Canadians soldiers fighting along British tanks.
What the hell is going on with my government!

Sky News reported the other night that we going to send troops down by the Iran boarder as a precautionary There were early reports of 1st and 2nd Marines, and UK 7th armored going north, east of the Tigris (between Tigris and Iran border). I'll be looking for the books on this war to see what really went down! Anyway, with so few refugees, perhaps the need to protect borders just doesn't exist (no need to keep other counties from asserting their military force to protect their borders, because there is no threat)

I'm having a hard time keeping my mom positive in all of this. She lurks on FR and she said that she feels better once she's been on for an hour or so.
Her biggest fear is not that we are going to lose the war, but that we will lose public opinion. In an email to me just a few minutes ago she said "My despair is not that we will not prevail, but that the public will fold. I lived through this before."
My dad was a captain in the Army during the Vietnam era and she said that this brings back all of the horrible antiwar sentiment that happened to them during that time.
How do I convince her that this is not history repeating itself?

"I am surprised that SanDeigoConservative was banned the skermish between him and the other poster over how great San Deigo is didn't seem harmful."
Why on Earth would they ban SanDiegoConservative?! Sometimes I wish we'd be a little slower on the ban button...

I heard about the Canadian soldiers on the AWACS, but what's this about Canadian soldiers fighting alongside British tanks?

Have her understand it is only the media giving protestors legitimacy. Their numbers, small to start, are only dwindling.
Remind her that our President does not do things unless they're right and he never vacillates once the decision is made. IOW, we may lose public opinion but it won't matter. It will be temporary, small in scope, limited in view, and history will judge it as moral contemptuous.

It was just brought up in the house during question period and the Minister refused to discuss it. The minister says "we would go down a slippery slope" if the federal government started confirming where the Canadians are.
Common Federal Government of Canada - be proud of what you are contributing to this cause!

" Who is Negroponte?"
John Negroponte is the US ambassador to the UN. I think Jesse Jackson showed up today, to demand he change his name, as it offends him :-).

Miss Marple may have amplified this point already, but,Juan Williams on Fox said that Clinton was obviously trying to set up Bush, when he said this-as as a former CinC,he had to know it wouldn't be a cakewalk.Nothing, absolutely nothing,is beneath Clinton.
