Good Morning.
This is the Daily Thread of Operation Iraqi Freedom - LIVE THREAD.
It is designed for general conversation about the events of the day. In depth discussion of events should be left to individual threads - but links to the threads or other articles is highly encouraged. This allows us to stay abreast of the situation in general, while also providing a means of obtaining specific information.
Please have mercy on us dial up limited FReepers! Limit the big graphics, post links instead. A breif description of what the graphic is would help:
Special thanks to null and void for keeping these running over the weekend and Monday, to all of you for keeping these threads alive, the AdminMods for their tolerance, mhking for the video links, and, of course, Belly Girl...

The media has simply picked up on the vibes it was getting out of Washington that there was a chance we could get this thing over with without much resistance. For instance i remember Bill Krystal going on Fox, not long after we had attempted to shish kebab Saddam, and him saying something to the effect that "this might be a war that was finished with just a single blow" and he was bubbling over with what a brilliant and brazen decision it was by the President to order a strike on Saddam. So the feeling was there. And the media picked up on it. I understand you aren't defending the media, and I also agree that some of the people at the Pentagon MAY have made statements that could be interpreted as "over-reaching" enthusiasm. But Bill Kristol is part of the media, and the leadership (Rumsfeld, Franks, Bush, Powell, etc.) have been very consistent in their expression that this effort is not apt to be completed in the public's "patience-frame." Mr. Kristol and the others are projecting their wishes, they are not reiterating administration positions.

I did see that one. The EPW recovering from surgery, too. How these doctors can do this is amazing to me. Actually, all doctors are pretty amazing to me, but I can't imagine having to do surgery out in the field. Our military doctors help preserve the life of our EPW's while the Iraqi's use tricks and deception to take the lives of our coalition troops.
As for your letter to the editor, I've seen your replies over the last few days, I'm sure that you could tell him what he should do! LOL!!

C'mon, he has to say that. If this were a ball game, no one would bother watching it. It's like the Miami-Temple football game.

5 to 10 days tells me we'll slow the pace, use lots of air support, let the Northern/Western Front close in, and stay focused on cleanup in Basra, Umm Qasr, etc. That is absolutely the way to go. These forces can be greatly attrited through the air. Let the "irregulars" and the Fedayeen come in and die at the feet of our soldiers. Time is on our side. By the time we actually go into Baghdad, there will be nearly nobody left to stop us.

Well, hells bells, yesterday Kofi referred to us as the barbarians that cut off humanitarian aid. I wouldn't grace that place with my presence (and save $900 million to boot).
To: Dog
you're welcome..
To: The Wizard
Disagree. We'll slow the pace...somewhat. When you can't decapitate leadership the next best thing is to strangle it. We'll close the ring on Baghdad and slowly constrict. Nothing comes in, nothing goes out but the pressure just steadily increases. Three weeks...
