it's funny.......the 3rd is the baby regiment. No history like the others. And yet they are the only ones left alone. Black Horse and the 2nd......others were jealous of us.

Reminds me of the Sweet 16 parties we would have at the end of REFORGER excercises in Germany with the 2d, 3d and 11th ACR's. (2+3+11=16 thus Sweet 16). You can imagine the party that was.

Ever hear of the story about Patton and his 3rd Army? Turned parallel to the Germans and rushed to rescue Bastogne (sp?). That was the 2nd. Hitler called them "Patton's Ghosts."

They hit as hard as a Division, but twice as fast. Best damn units in the army (other than the Rangers of which I'm one as well).

The 2nd ACR has changed over to a Stryker brigade -- right?

It's about damn time.

I've been thinking for a while that we really needed a four-division corps organized for this. This corps -- doesn't matter who has admin control over it -- would be composed of 3ID, 4ID, 1CD and 1AD -- with 3ACR screening. Why we've not done this yet has me wondering.

My brother in law is a tank commander in the 3rd Armored Cav. He left today. The 4th Infantry has been held up because of the issue w/ Turkehy

Well, sort of. The fallback plan was for 4th Infantry and Taskforce Ironsides to keep their heavy equipment aboard ship, and instead offload at Umm Qasr. We more or less hold the port facilities, but the tempting consideration of a counterattack that catches a divisional-sized task force unloading from 30-some ships should be something the planners had better very carefully consider.

One question I'm unclear on. Is the 3rd ACR a part of the 4th Infantry Division, or is it a unit unto itself under III Corps?

The 3 ACR unit forces already in the theater are listed as being under the Operational Control [OPCON] of V Corps, not III Corps.

Just curious if anyone knows where the Big Red One is? Seems like they'd be the first ones in on this thing.

They've got about an 1,800-soldier force, reinforced with armor- not certain if it's an organic 1 INF battalion or not- and they've just pulled off a crossing of the River Euphrates, though they may be in a bit over their head.

First Infantry's 1/26th Infantry Bn, 121st Signal BN and one of their Maintenance Support battalions are co-assigned, as part of that Task Force Ironhorse that's been waiting on the 4th Infantry assets to show up- obviously, they're not waiting for that.

And about a half-hour ago, we just landed a reinforced battalion of Rangers and paratroopers in northern Iraq, taking an airfield that's likely to become very busy landing large cargo aircraft with reinforcements and supplies. Perhaps that's where some of those 4th Infantry units and equipment already offloaded will be going, assuming we maintain control of the place.

My nephew is in the 3dACR and the word we're getting is that their equipment was shipped a while back, but that, because of the Turkey issue, they were waiting for deployment orders........ until now.
