Just monitored on Sky News: embedded reporter says Shiites in Basra have begun, in his words, a "popular uprising" against the Saddam forces still in the city. British Army units are "pouring" artillery into the city (likely isolated areas) preparing to move in.

The political enemy we are fighting in Iraq is the Ba'ath Party. They are not a religion; they are an outgrowth of mid-Twentieth Century fascism (in fact, IIRC they were created in Mosul when Iraq was a Nazi puppet state).

Islam is a RELIGION, practiced by more than a billion people worldwide.

LOL! We did try "loose federalism" in the United States. It worked fairly well for 150 years. Then the Democrats took over all three branches of the government for 12 years, and trashed the whole Constitution. It will be a long, hard process to get back both our Constitution and our form of government.

MSNBC is reporting what our Defense Intelligence Agency is saying. I think we shouldn't make any conclusions until more information becomes available. Hopefully, we have CIA agents stirring up trouble against Saddam in the crowds.
