The Republican Guard are in deep Shi'ite.

Good Shiite happens sometimes. It sounds like Good Shiite is happening in Bashra.
The Brits announced that Basra was a "military target" and an hour later the populace starts rebelling. Hmmmmm.

Reported on MSNBC. Is this why the market is spiking?

Actually, IIRC...Ba'athism was founded by an Alawite Muslim.

WOW!
Saddam is as out of touch as Kofi Annan!
If that is the case, then the Iraqis area already aware that the rest of the world fiddled while the Allies freed them.

Maybe (just maybe, now) this will encourage Iran to stand back - of course, this could encourage them to wedge their shoulder in.
In the longer term (real wishful thinking now on my part), this will encourage Iran to stand down from their axis of evil stance. E.g., encourage moderate Shias in Iran that maybe democracy ain't so bad after all....

I don't think so. It had been going up before this announcement. Will be interesting to see how it ends.

Apparently the UK desert rats went in the night before and wiped out the Ba'ath party headquarters and took this prize.

The Shiites have had enough of Saddam and his minion's crap. They're working with British troops to get rid of the liberals ( Saddam supporters ). So the "people who aren't cheering for us to come in" are fighting for us to come in. FOX News calls it a popular uprising. They'll also point out any of Saddam's cockroaches so we can stomp them.
