But the real question is, what will *his* people believe.

That is a good point, this clearly was pre-recorded to be used to inspire the people at a key moment.

But it is also very important for us to know just how disjointed things are for them. The references to already-surrendered units indicates pretty strongly that he isn't in any condition to appear on TV now, and that is good to know.

The military officials KNOW that he is dead or gravely wounded because they are just ignoring this crap. They are dismissing it like it never happened. They have MORE important things to do than listen to a dead man.

Maybe Dubya should take him up on his offer for a debate

"Well we have learned that the Chinese laundry is still in operation."

That explains his starched appearance.

( though "stuffed and propped" came quicker to mind )

did Saddam say anything current or could this just be a pre-made tape?

He said, "Dammit Jim, I'm a dictator, not a doctor!" and then he took off all his clothes and played the piano.

The link in post #440 is to a more recent story denying the earlier surrender in post #446.

Do you think that Hussein knows what a "Dingle-Norwood" is?

The wrinkles in the sheet keep appearing/disappearing and it's not due to camera angle. Watch the 3 big wrinkles that intersect the Iraqi flag to the left.

Good point. It was the wrinkles! And here Saddam thought it was the strawberries....

I wonder if this changes our military tactics ... do we start printing leaflets saying "Your leader is extra crispy; don't follow in his footsteps"? I really think it would be in our military's best interest to get the word spread.
