Good Morning.
This is the Daily Thread of Operation Iraqi Freedom - LIVE THREAD.
It is designed for general conversation about the events of the day. In depth discussion of events should be left to individual threads - but links to the threads or other articles is highly encouraged. This allows us to stay abreast of the situation in general, while also providing a means of obtaining specific information.
Please have mercy on us dial up limited FReepers! Limit the big graphics, post links instead. A breif description of what the graphic is would help:
To all who helped this get started, thank you!
Special thanks to An.American.Expatriate for staring the daily threads, Mo1 for the screamer, the AdminMods for their tolerance, mhking for the video links, and, of course, Belly Girl...

SCUD-B is 10.25 meters long (aprox 33 feet).

20 miles according to times online via Drudge
If you want to read about how the Iraqis treated our POWS in the GW, there are a couple of books out by members of the British Bravo Two Zero patrol that was captured and tortured. Pretty grisly stuff.
Search for "The One That Got Away" by Chris Ryan and "Brave Two Zero" by Andy McNabb

oh, sorry you said yield, but my above post still applies as to why a moab is more useful

We'll nuke the RG
No, We'll carpet bomb them. 1 mile long, 50 feet deep. I'm a former B-52 radar navigator. No need for nukes. Although it's temping.

The main difference is a lot less crap from the rest of the world... If we used a Nuke (even in self defense) the entire Arab world and most of the rest of the world would go ballistic. A bunch of MOABS would kill every enemy troop around and not leave a radiation cloud that could waft over Baghdad or Karbala or anywhere.

Thank you, Laura. Thank your husband, too. (^: We are so fortunate to have the leaders we have in charge of this war. The man who picked this team, our CIC, loves his country.

Glad to hear the story's being told.

There was thread earlier today about standing orders to blow the dams up north if we moved in from that direction, but haven't seen anything about the Karbala Resevoir dams.

Obviously. Do you know the yield difference? Thanks.
To: glock rocks
um, why don't we just carpet bomb them anyway? I think we are. The RG at least.
To: lavrenti
Drudge is reporting that we are within 20 miles of Baghdad... sounds a little close to me.. Last I saw and heard we were preparing to hit Karbala with the 3ID -- and that the RG was entrenched there.

So?
They're pissed off already.
It won't hurt to give 'em something to think about.

Search for "The One That Got Away" by Chris Ryan and "Brave Two Zero" by Andy McNabb I am not sure about Chris Ryan, but McNabb is in it for the publicity. I have read some reports from the guys who were with him and they said the book has little to do with what really happened. If you want to read about how Iraqi treats it's people, read _Republic_of_Fear_ by Kanan Makiya.
Like Dick Marcinko, McNabb is a good story teller but don't read his book looking for facts.
To: commish
That's been Saddam's plan. Blow the dams once our forces are on both side of the river at the gap. It would be devastating, but I'm confident that problem has been dealt with.

just heard that we have about 100,00 troops 50 miles outside B-dad vs the same number of RG. (Medina Div)
