Everywhere! | 23 Mar 2003 | An.American.Expatriate

Good Morning.

This is the Daily Thread of Operation Iraqi Freedom - LIVE THREAD.

It is designed for general conversation about the events of the day. In depth discussion of events should be left to individual threads - but links to the threads or other articles is highly encouraged. This allows us to stay abreast of the situation in general, while also providing a means of obtaining specific information.

Please have mercy on us dial up limited FReepers! Limit the big graphics, post links instead. A breif description of what the graphic is would help:

To all who helped this get started, thank you!

Special thanks to An.American.Expatriate for staring the daily threads, Mo1 for the screamer, the AdminMods for their tolerance, mhking for the video links, and, of course, Belly Girl...

If we are going to show footage like that, we have no right to complain about the footage taken by Iraqi TV.

The Iraqi filming was done and distributed by the Iraqi government. That is a violation of the Geneva Convention.

CBS filming something on the spot is not something done or distributed by the American government, as CBS is a private corporation. So it is not a violation of the Geneva Convention.

Beeb has tired of the "quagmire" and "stiff resistance" angle. So now, they've moved to the growing crisis in the North with Turkey.

That was CBS call, NOT the U.S. Government. That is the difference, although CBS should be just ashamed as AJ.

So where is the outrage there? How many have called up CBS complaining about showing the dead Iraqis? We can't have it both ways.

Relax, I was being sarcastic.

I read all the posts. People on both sides made valid points.

Fox: Dozen explosions in Baghdad, but I didn't hear them.

I believe it is. My cats seem to want the computer chair only when I sit down to Freep. Then they're all over the keyboard. Extra litter box action, more cries for food... yep, they're all in it together.

LOL! I knew it! Recently one of my cats walked on the keyboard as I was writing a post. I just left it there as his comment. I was trying to appease him but it just makes that bad behavior worse. Shame that the UN couldn't figure that out.

Yes, if Bush gave an order to show dead enemy.

We have a free press and a lst amendment, unlike the Iraqi gov who made the decision to show pictures.

Thank you for explaining that. That is the difference.

I trust everyone here knows that CBS is not part of our government.

News: Linda Vester reporting multiple large explosions heard 6-10 miles south to southwest of Baghdad.

"You ever spend 4 hrs going in and out of almost every store in the mall (some of them twice) with a 15 year old girl? It can be a fate worse thatn death! ;0)"

You have my sympathy. Mine is 13 and doesn't understand why she can't have new clothes on demand. Mall time with her is punishment... constant demands for fashions we flatly will not allow her to wear. No daughter of mine is going to run around looking like Belly Girl on spring break!

Well, I can hope.

Buffs have arrived. That means I've been on FR for 6 hours plus. What day is this?

It seems to me it appeared that he wasn't aware that the troops had been executed. James Rosen said last night that having watched W for two years he thinks had Bush known about it he wouldn't have been nearly as composed or nice. Rosen believed he would have been furious and much more damning in his remarks.

What??!

I am stunned by this "analysis". I saw President Bush yesterday and I would say "furious" would be the apt description.

His stern and grim visage accompanied by his remarks indicated he was fully aware of what had transpired.

Naturally, I missed Rosen, but cannot fathom why he would characterize it as you say he did.

And while I'm on the subject, at that time President Bush was asked about the granting of exile for Saddam that some in the press seem intent on getting him to agree to, and he stated flatly that the deadline on that option expired Wed night. That is why when someone said Ari was asked, YET AGAIN, about this today I was amazed (but not surprised).

I think you are right. When I am on my home pc, the littlest cat lays down in my lap and pushes her cold nose into my arm repeatedly until I pet her. The other one sits on top of the monitor trying to attack the cursor.

More proof!

Thank you.

My point, re: your response to the poster asking for a synopsis, was that the "Rush" interaction took up less than 10 posts, by my count. Hardly a blip on the thread, imo.
