BBC: Tommy Franks is a different character. He's no Stormin' Norman.

There was an article yesterday or so, about the p.o'ed reporters in Qatar, sitting around the CENTCOM and not getting any press conferences ala Stormin'Norman in 91.
LOL, they were whining that with all the embedded troops sending out their stuff via the videophones, that they were almost the last to hear anything. Ha

Fox: Marine captain says battle of Basrah continues, but we have the airport.

Setting off the oil-trenches is only worrying in the sense that they may be trying to obscure TV coverage of SnA. I say that, not for OUR loss of visibility, but because I fear the Iraqis will begin setting off indiscriminate explosions all over the city and blame it on us. OTH, I guess they could do that anyway.

With what we dropped, that's amazing. Of course, we gave them some warning unlike 9-11.

I don't think Franks likes the limelight as much as Stormin Norman did. Just wants to focus on the job at hand.

I don't know if any of you have been following the blog from they person in Baghdad but the link is
here. No recent updates but interesting to read the view on the ground from an Iraqi.

I thought "Belly Girl" was the Blonde babe that had the anti French-german sign from the thread last night.

It's an ancient battle tactic, intended to put fear in your enemy and deter them from crossing your line. Came just before bows and arrows, and about the same time as spears.

That sure was nice of FNC to show the world that Mobile Missile Launcher driving around the middle of Baghdad..

I fear the Iraqis will begin setting off indiscriminate explosions all over the city and blame it on us I wouldn't worry too much about that. I think they have bigger problems they need to worry about.

I might have gone too far back.

Update from FNC - ring of black smoke to the south through southwest. This IS the Iraqis doing, confirmed by the Iraqis. Hmmm. This tells me that FO's from the RG divisions (the Nebuchadnezzar and the Hammurabi), if they exist, must have spotted the dust trails of the Seventh Cavalry. My first thought was that they were going up the Karbala gap.
Karbala Gap is only one attack line. The crossing at Nasiriyah was key. The establishment of a bridgehead here will allow us to attack up both sides of the Euphrates.
Be Seeing You,
Chris
