This is the continuation Thread of Operation Iraqi Freedom - Day 1- LIVE THREAD.

I don't want to speak out of school but I've been smelling an enveloping movement that will hit Baghdad from the North. New and improved Schleiffen Plan?

Firstly, defense officials apparently have told FOX News that Basra is in our hands.

Here's what I think is going on. To illustrate, I'll post one of those handy road maps...

Now then, we know what the Third ID and the Seventh Cav are doing. Seventh Cav is doing recon work all the way up to An Najaf. They will probe up to the picket lines of the Hammurabi Division, which is straddling the Karbala Gap. That gap lies between the Euphrates and a lake which, unfortunately, is not on the map but lies west of the Euphrates. I'm thinking that the Third ID will attack on both sides of the river.

The question is what are the UK 7th Armored Brigade and the First MarDiv doing? Well, if you saw the videotape, you saw that the armored units were rolling up what looked like a superhighway. That's the Safwan highway. It runs from Basra straight up the gut to Baghdad. My thinking is that we'll attack with everything we've got, the 7th Armored, First Marines, Third ID and the Seventh Cav against the Nebuchadnezzar and the Hammurabi divisions lie in wait.

I don't believe we're going to surround Baghdad. I believe we're going to try to pulverize the two Guard divisions and roll right into Baghdad on those shiny highways Saddam built. We need to do this on the heels of the destruction of Saddam's last hope, his outer defensive ring. Key to this is getting the UK and the Marines up the highway as soon as humanly possible.

Finally, everyone wonders what is happening to the 101st Air Assault. I believe that they are being staged for the final assault. This may be the "inside out" that we've been waiting for. If those guys can assault Saddam International and secure the airport, they may be used to take the Iraqi federal zone from the inside while the armored units come up the gut.

I'm still waiting for the other shoe to drop: the Parachute Regiment and the 82nd Airborne's brigade. Methinks they'll either be dropped north or will take part in the final assault with the 101st.

BTW, the news that some of the RG's are trying to establish martial law in Baghdad tells me that the entire regime is on the ropes.
