I said to my wife this morning, "If Saddam's alive, he HAS TO make some sort of defiant appearance on TV today, and quickly; it's absolutely crucial for his people and officers and troops to see he's alive and still in control. Let's see what happens today."
Well, today's over. His regime is crumbling and scurrying, and no Saddam.
Holy crap, I'm beginning to believe the unbelievable. There's no way he wouldn't appear on TV if still OK, no way. Only death would keep him from appearing....

The way the guys on FOX described it: they used a bunker buster to get through the top layers, and then they used several bombs from a B2 - whatever they are - because they can get through the rest of the layers of the bunker.
With all that, I agree - it would be very difficult to survive. I just hope both sons were done in too - because they are more dangerous than Saddam.

What do you want to bet Saddam got out of his bed to smugly go to his bunker's kitchen for a cool glass of goats milk, opened the fridge thinking "George W. Bush and his ultimatum are a joke", poured his milk & started drinking...All of the "sudan", the glass jars inside the fridge begin shaking and the next thing Hussein knows, he's lying on a stretcher?

I hope as well that if the rumors of Iraqi leadership trying to run for Syria are true that we cut them off and kill them on the road.
No reason letting that foul group make Syria an even bigger problem than it already is.

They probably also would not want to announce it until we held the whole country -- including occupying Baghdad -- because the moment the military aspect ends the diplomacy picks back up again. And we need possession of the country before that happens -- possession is that 9/10ths...
That makes a lot of sense.
Plus we need to keep the greedy french out of the picture.

There ain't a chance in hell that Bashir Assad will give those people safe haven. What's being down right now in Iraq is going to keep the Middle East quite for 30 years. The people ruling the countries in that area of the world may be thuggish brutes but they are able to recognize the abyss when they see it, and they saw the abyss on Wednesday night with a sequel that Fox and CNN dutifully broadcast for good measure today.

We have bunker buster bombs that the military is able to program at what level they want it to detonate. So the bomb can basically detect if it has gone through 1 level or 2 levels or even 3 levels of flooring before it triggers itself to denotate.

That's interesting - I had only heard that it could go to a certain depth before it would explode. I presumed they programmed it to go to a certain depty before exploding.

One of the shots from the Al Jezeerra video shows a nearby explosion (to the right of and closer than the Baghdad Palace), followed by two more explosions. On first glance I was impressed by how near in proximity the impacts were. Upon replay, you can see that the second explosion is on the exact same point that the first one is, and nine seconds later. The third explosion is right on that same point again, and nine seconds after the second explosion. Pretty amazing stuff.

FNC also said we can track these escapees-- allowing us to capture them and interrogate them. Iraq must have a very eager throng of Saddam-haters just burning for the chance to turn these thugs in to our coalition.

Was thinkin', if we got saddam on wednesday with the first strike it would make GW the champion cruise missle sniper of all time. ONE SHOT ONE KILL!!! I keep remembering W's declaration, in Hillary's presence, that when he went after the terrorists, he wasn't going to fire a million dollar cruise missile and hit a camel in the behind ...
