UNITED NATIONS, March 20 -- U.N. Secretary General Kofi Annan asked the Security Council today to put him in charge of a humanitarian program that uses billions of dollars in Iraqi oil proceeds to pay for the delivery of food, medicine and other humanitarian supplies to needy Iraqi civilians.
The United States and Britain supported Annan's request for control of the oil-for-food program in their own resolution, to be presented to the council Friday. It would grant the United Nations power for at least 30 days to replace the Iraqi government as the chief supplier of food and other essential goods to millions of Iraqis.

Of course he wants to be in charge, it's the only way he will remain relevant and important. The UN certainly isn't.

Well, isn't this just ginger peachy? Koffee can skim enough to serve his leftist buddies more lobster and champagne (as he makes hefty deposits into his off-shore bank account)!

As far as I'm concerned, the U.N. wanted nothing to do with Iraq's liberation. As a consequence, they shall have NO SAY in what happens after we've done the work that they refused to take on.
To hell with Kofi Annan and to hell with the U.N.!

Exactly. This is all about the money and divvying up the spoils of war to that commie bastard and the rest of the UN thugs. Wow! A rational response from someone from Sweden. Is there actually as much opposition in Sweden to the "Coalition of the Willing's" campaign against Saddam Hussein's Baathist regime in Iraq, or is the press exaggerating?
To: Paleo Conservative
I've lived here nearly all my life, in the NW of US. Sweden is like Oregon or Washington, about 55% lefty. The equivalent of the GOP about 20 yrs ago wound up in power, but like the GOP here, didn't have the guts to actually do anything and got booted right back out. I did live there in 86 and found most of my friends and relatives to be conservative, especially the people my age, I was 19. Sweden will eventually turn like Denmark, immigration is pushing folks more and more conservative.

Let them eat Kofi Cake.
